8/9/06 - ProFlex Hairpiece Tape

ProFlex Hairpiece tape is used primarily for extended wear generally allowing for 2-4 weeks of attachment.

PROS:

Proflex is very easy to use. You simply tear off the white backing and apply it to your hair system, then when you're ready to attach just take off the blue backing and place the unit on your scalp. Also, unlike liquid adhesives there is no stringy mess to deal with while applying, no sticky lids and no waiting around for vapors to evaporate.

Also, a big plus to using Proflex (or any hairpiece tape for that matter) is that you can use ProTouch Adjust-a-Bond which gives you extra time to get your system settled into just the right position.

CONS:

The biggest problem I've seen when using Proflex is the possibility of "meltdown" - especially during the summer or in very warm places. Many hair wearers don't experience this, but those who do generally have oily skin or perspire excessively.

I've also heard that using Proflex tape along the front hairline sometimes causes a shine or reflective look on the scalp, however, this problem is easily resolved with some baby powder or simply touching your fingers against your hair a few times to "smudge" the shine away.

Hair Tech's Review:

Personally, Proflex tape is my favorite type of hair system attachment. There are many reasons I like it, for one, it's convenient and easy to use. It creates a very strong, long-lasting bond. In fact I've switched many of my in-house clients to Proflex for their extended wear hair systems.

We sell Proflex in packs of "mini tape tabs" as well as on a roll to fit your needs. The mini tabs sell in packs of 36 for $10 and the roll is 40' in length and sells for $60.

8/9/06 - Ultra Hold

Ultra Hold liquid hairpiece bond is used primarily for extended wear generally allowing for 2-4 weeks of attachment.

PROS:

Strength, length and strength. Certainly the biggest advantage to using this product is the strength and length of the bond it provides. It will not meltdown or loosen after showering and it's waterproof so it allows you to live your life the way you want without worrying about if your hair system will stay on tight!

CONS:

Ultra Hold can be messy and hard to work with because it is a thick liquid bond. It tends to be stringy and could easily get in the hair if you're not careful. The application brush attached to the lid does make it a little easier to work with, but you still must take your time!

Speaking of the lid, this glue is so strong that I sometimes have problems getting the lid off after I've opened it! To avoid this problem, you need to make sure there is no adhesive on or around the rim before you close. Lastly, the bottle that the Ultra Hold comes in isn't the most convenient for travel — it is glass and a bit on the larger side.

Hair Tech's Review:

Walker Ultra Hold is one of the most popular extended wear liquid adhesives we sell. It's an acrylic adhesive which means it's resilient and waterproof. Typically, I advise my clients to use Ultra Hold if they cannot or do not want to use Proflex tape.

The thick brush attached to the underside of the lid makes for easy application, which is very important for liquid because it must be applied in light, even layers for maximum effect. We sell Ultra Hold for $27.95 per 3.4oz. jar which is comparable to most other extended wear bonding products.

4/10/06 - TDI Magic Reconstructor

Helps heal slit ends and restore damaged and chemically treated hair to it's original shine and luster.

PROS:

Magic Reconstructor is a very deep, rich and creamy hair conditioner that can help improve the texture of the hair in your hair replacement systems. If used along with a product like Nearly Natural, it may also help to avoid knotting, matting and create more manageability.

CONS:

This product is sold in a 4oz. bottle and we sell it for $7.25. That's not too bad, but a little high if you ask me. However, a little can go along way! Also, there is a very light scent similar to baby powder, but nothing you will notice once your hair is dry.

Hair Tech's Review:

I really like this product. In fact, lately, I've been using it with all the hair systems that come into our tech room for a conditioning treatment. What I do is put it on the hair then place the unit in a plastic bag and let it sit overnight. The next morning I'll rinse out the conditioner and style the hair as usual.

3/2/06 - Nearly Natural

Conditions the hair and restores moisture to dried out hair systems. Helps give back the look and feel of natural hair.

PROS:

This product is fantastic! I'm not exactly sure about the chemical make-up but it is very gentle on the hair and will certainly do a great job giving back life to dull, dry hair systems. Also, Nearly Natural is quite affordable. We sell it for $8.99 per bottle but since you only need 5-6 sprays per use it will easily provide 40 applications and keep your hair system looking and feeling great for longer.

CONS:

Well, believe it or not... this is one of those rare products that really doesn't have any CONS! It's really that good. Of course, you should judge for yourself.

Consider it a challenge! :-)

Hair Tech's Review:

Nearly Natural was originally formulated by a pharmacist who was frustrated by the manageability, dried out look and course feel of his own hair replacement system. After working with this product myself for sometime now, I've found it really does help soften the hair.

I suggest using a good conditioner like Kerasilk Treatment or PPI Color Guard along with Nearly Natural for the best results. Start by shampooing your hair then spray in the Nearly Natural treatment, add conditioner and lather well. Lastly, rinse out both products and style. Nearly Natural has virtually no scent and will not cause fading nor will it strip the hair of its texture.

2/2/06 - TRI Moisturizing Shampoo

Daily conditioning shampoo for both natural growing hair and hairpieces.

PROS:

CONS:

It sells for $12 and although the boss probably doesn't agree with me here, I think that's a little pricey (but still worth it). Also, I never like when a product claims it can restore hair color and/or highlights. Please remember once color has faded in your hair system the only way to get it back is to color your hair.

Hair Tech's Review:

A wonderful product if you’re looking to improve the feel and softness of your hair. You can instantly feel the difference after using this product. I personally use TRI moisturizing shampoo because I love it so much! And that should say a lot because I'm very picky when it comes to choosing products for my family and myself.

2/2/06 - TRI Express Conditioner

Spray-on leave-in conditioner and detangler that makes combing out tangles easier.

PROS:

It makes getting tangles out very easy and safe. Also, there are several protective elements in the formula that can help to reduce color fading and protect chemically treated hair (a must for most hair wearers). Plus the bottle shape is quite unique.

CONS:

Scent... Some of my clients didn't like the scent claiming it has a medicinal smell. I'm still not sure what it smells like to be honest with you. I really didn't notice any certain smell, I think it's so light you might not detect one. The cap that goes over this spray bottle is also kind of flimsy and doesn't stay on too well.

Hair Tech's Review:

This is a great detangler; it won’t overload your hair system or weigh down the hair. Just spray it in after using TRI Moisturizing Shampoo , comb thru with a wide tooth comb, and you're good to go! It's a light conditioner, enough to keep your hair replacement system looking great for longer.

You can use gels and hair sprays after applying the conditioner first. I think this is a wonderful product, and I highly recommend you use it everyday as part of your hair care regime.

12/12/05 - Brandywine Wig Luster

Natural propellant. It adds a luster or shine to the hair in your hair system and will help it stay cleaner for longer.

PROS:

Provides for high-shine, manageable, soft and beautiful hair! Great for both human and synthetic hair.

CONS:

Although the product itself is fantastic, the name and packaging could be better. As is the case with most Brandywine products, the word wig is worked into the name somehow and appears right smack on the front of the bottle!

I wish it wasn't that way, as we know some hair wearers might be uncomfortable with this "dirty word" living in their bathroom.

Hair Tech's Review:

Wig Luster (unlike Wig Restorer, see below) by Brandywine is a great product. To put it into technical terms, "It's the bomb!" if you're looking for something to restore shine and condition your hair system.

This product makes hair replacement systems look so nice that often times, our hair techs will come into our the tech room to spray a little on their clients' units before sending them out.

12/9/05 - Brandywine Wig Restorer

Restores color in dull wigs and helps to add a shiny, healthy look to hair replacement systems.

PROS:

There really isn't much of a "pro" for this product. I would like to think we'll be discontinuing it soon.

CONS:

Too greasy, too heavy. Doesn't do a very good job restoring color (in fact I don't know of anything that can actually restore color once it's gone).

I think the idea of a product that provides the "wet look" is good, but with Wig Restorer, Brandywine just over did it a little. The mixture is just too thick and heavy!

Hair Tech's Review:

Well the boss might not like me saying this, but I just wasn't impressed with this product at all. In my humble opinion it's sort of like putting Vaseline in your hair! I'm really not even sure why Brandywine makes this product?!?

Brandywine has tons of great products, but unfortunately this one item just doesn't have much use for our hair systems.

11/17/05 - TDI Knot Sealer

This is a multi-purpose spray, it helps to seal both lace and polyurethane hair systems and it can also improve the performance of adhesion with both tape and liquid adhesives.

PROS:

Let me start by saying “WOW!” This is a must-have for all hair wearers! I highly recommend you have this on hand at all times (that’s if you want to give your hair system the “star treatment”).

Simply put, I love the results we’ve been seeing in the last few months! This product puts a coating on the base and the tape really does stick so much better. I use it on every new and old system I put on my clients. They can tell the difference right away, their hair systems feel more secure and most importantly, they feel more secure.

It also puts a thin seal on the underside of the unit, which helps to minimize hair shedding. And who doesn't want a product that will slow that process? All you have to do is treat your new hair system once with the TDI Knot Sealer when you first receive it. Then you’re all set!

CONS:

At $22.00 it is a bit pricey. But, you won’t need to use it very often so it should last. Probably the worst part about this spray is the smell. Woah! I’ve got to warn you that the fumes are wicked!

You might even feel a little loopy after doing the treatment. I can count on catching a buzz anytime I use it in the tech room. My advice is to take it outside or at least open a window (or not!).

Hair Tech's Review:

We get so many calls about tape not sticking to lace bases and poly edging. Although there are some things we can usually recommend, it’s always been a persistent problem! So recently I started using this new spray from TDI.

It’s called TDI Knot sealer and it comes in a 4 oz. spray bottle with specific instructions on how to treat your system.

12/9/05 - Kerasilk Treatment

A high-end hair conditioner ideal for dry hair, it softens and smoothens both human and synthetic hair.

PROS:

In case the beautiful packaging doesn't say it all, this conditioner is high-end all the way. The texture and scent are very pleasing but the very best part is how well it works!

Kerasilk Treatment provides a very deep conditioning and using 2-3 times a week will keep your hair smooth and shiny for longer than you might be used to.

CONS:

Well I think the price is a little high, but not too bad. And although it's great by itself, you'll only get the full impact if you use it along with the rest of the products in the Kerasilk package.

Hair Tech's Review:

This product is part of a wonderful Goldwell package called Kerasilk. They're all great, but this conditioner stands out from the crowd. Every hair wearer has problems with keeping the hair in their systems from drying out and becoming brittle, Kerasilk Treatment provides a solution!

I've been using this conditioner on my clients for almost a year now. And loving it more all the time!
