Beating the Hairpiece Color Blues: How Not to be "That Guy"
We’ve all seen “that guy.” He has the lush, jet black hair of a 25 year old and the birth certificate of the kid’s grandfather. Even if you get everything else right, a bad (or age-inappropriate) color match can be a dead giveaway that you're wearing.
And did you ever see a hair wearer (or celebrity) with one color for his top of head and another color for the sides? Chances are they're wearing units that are a little off-color—that is, the wrong color. It’s the hairpiece color blues.
Obtaining and keeping great color is vital to ensuring an undetectable appearance. The right color can make all the difference between blending into a room and setting off toupee detectors.
Quick tips for getting a natural color blend:
- Resist going "too dark." It’s a tough call. Dark, gray-free hair equates to vitality in the minds of many. But adding subtle gray tones, especially around the front and temples, gives your system a much more natural (and age-appropriate) look.
- Don't forget your graduation. A natural color graduation occurs in everybody's growing hair, so the trick is to replicate nature by taking the right hair samples (from the right areas) of your head. If that's not possible, using a color ring is the way to go.
- Get tough on oxidation Ever notice your hair taking on a reddish tint? That's oxidation. It happens to us all, but using products with UV protectors or occasionally refreshing your color with these special conditioners takes the heat right out of oxidation.
