I joined the community in february 2009 and i'm now a HD24 full lace hair wearer, who happen to NOT have straight hair. I'm part african descent and also part native american or some would say, African American. Check out my before and after photos in the HD photo gallery. http://www.hairdirect.com/community/photos/donaldt/default.aspx I did some research on the Internet and through google.com i found HAIRDIRECT.COM and even though they didn't have any "men of color" in photos on the site, i was so desperate because at my tender age of 59 (i will be 60 jan 4 2010), that i needed to do something better than propecia, toppik.com products, concealers, courve masking locaitons, and all the rest, simply because the older i was getting the less hair was on the top. Before i found HD, I even went to a hair transplant consultation back in february of 2009, too, and they wanted $9,000 and there was no guarantee that i would get a full head hair and the entire process could take from 6 months to a year before i could see any real results. I said forget that procedure. I was trying everything, especially in 2009, because i started losing my hair at around 35 and as i said before, i'm now 59 and a half, so in order to see who or what could help me in making sure that i could keep or grow or use a hair system, i was doing my research because i refused to have to go bald completely. My brother did, but everyone is not the same and i love hair, period. Not only that, i couldn't swim with these topical illusions because they would just wash out. I realize that hair loss is traumatic to ANY person that has lost or loosing their hair because those of us that are now wearing hair systems, doing it because of my need to look like I want to with hair, even if it isn't my own. I feel good on the INSIDE, thus i want to show that feeling on the OUTSIDE, which including having hair. I have learned through trusting HD and communicating on this board that this is not about me needing someone to "look" like me or have the same hair texture as myself, in order for me to believe that HD can help me. As i grew in knowledge with HD, i found out that HD has the technology and capability of MATCHING anyone's hair texture, no matter that it is straight, wavy, curly or course. I now know how to remove/clean/shave/retape/reattach my unit, simply because there were times that i had no choice and my local hair stylist was getting quite expensive, too. But to be honest about the maintenance portion of wearing a system, i had to realized that no one will take care of my unit better than i would and i needed to learn to do just that because i go on vacations, and not only that the stylist may not be available when i need her or him. After about 35 years of receding hair line, topical solutions, hair illusions, concealers, masking lotions, dyes, you name it, i finally found a place I can "home" and be able to even go swimming, one of my favorite water sports.
