Confusedjust a few comments from the playing field-

My first replacements from HD were remarkably wrong.  Color and hair shaft density way off.  Of course I was very upset and quite inconvienenced despite HD's great prices and I let my hair tech and the HD office know.  In a superb rush job they absolutely blew my mind with a fabulous remake. 12 years of wearing hair, the finest replacement I had ever worn!

Now the sticky part: in three consequent remakes of the ones done incorrectly, the hair is right, but the ventilation and density in places has been a little off.  This has caused the front edge of the lace to become exposed a bit and the hair to "jump" rather than lay down.

When contacting my hair tech, I was told that though they would do their best to match my first remake, but these units are individually made and there will be some variation.  What gives?  Are these custom made replacements or not?  Shall I expect future variations in future units?  If these replacements are made in China-what kind of control does HD have over them?  It would be nice to see this post replied to by a HD executive if one is available...

Also-tell me this folks, if the SOP for 12 units a year is $199 a month and there is surcharge of $10 each time units are delivered-which is bi-monthly-why is my debit card charged $209 each month?

I'm a strong client of HD and will be for some time, but my confidence ebbs and flows at times.

I can't comment regarding what control HD may have over the factory in China; however, I can make a comment about custom made hair since I've worn custom hair for over 40 years.

Each unit is made by hand. Each hair is knotted into the cap/base by hand. Because the hair is put into the unit by hand, no two units are going to be exactly the same. The quality of the piece is going to be determined by the experience of the person who is placing the hair. In addition, no two units made by the same person are going to be exactly the same, either. The best example of this would be for you to sign your name several times on the same sheet of paper using the same pen. If you look at your signature, it will be slightly different each time for a whole host of reasons.

It's unfortunate that we can't know who makes the units and then, when we get one that is exceptionally well done, request that person make each of our subsequent units. It would sure save a lot of time and trouble in the long run. I would suspect that the reason HD's return policy is so excellent is because HD recognizes the custom hair phenomenon described above. Pure speculation on my part, but it would certainly seem logical since Bill has incredible experience with hair.

    Hope this information helps.

I have been with HD for a little over a year now, since being on the road to Damascus away from hair centers that rape you. I have had one flakey unit which was cut way to short which I have not sent back yet. But the rest ;and I am on the same arrangement as yourself by the sounds of it ,have been great , Granted my wife is a hairdresser and always likes to get involved in the fitting etc so that makes life very easy for me!!!

Any adjustments in density being a little thick she takes care of..

Getting the lace base has been really great, the front hairline is a little more maintenance but the result has been noticeable from being used to a poly unit. Confidence to slick back!! Bring on the windy days no fear…A unit like that would have cost a fortune at a salon and you would have to treat it like a baby worrying that you damaged it due to the exorbitant cost. Hair direct are not perfect im sure; who can be, its annoying when they get things a little out of whack I suspect I am a little shielded from your problems with my wife helping out I don’t know? But I know that up to now HD has been 90% fab 5% great 3%ok 2%human   I hope they get it right for you and eliminate the mistakes

    Regards mark

I wonder, don't units go through some kind of quality check before they are shipped out?

For the first time in my life, I'm not alone in this...

Geeked [8-|]well, no replies from a HD higher-ups on this just yet....

make no mistake-HD is a resource that goes above and beyond the expectations of the client market.  To think what I was paying for stock pieces becasuse the custom jobs were ridiculously priced, maybe I should keep my mouth shut about their small mistakes.

truth is, they have done such a good job that expectations are very high-at least in my case-and I want them to hit a home run with every replacement they send

when you look at yourself in the mirror and you yourself cannot tell that a replacement is involved, it gives you an unmatched confidence, a confidence you want so much to be there all the time.  Its a little off, yeah, you can live with it, but  when its dead on, you can stop worrying about your bad hair life.

Hey Gallaway - just wanted to chime in and let you know the old man (Bill Sr.) has read your comments and is writing up a response as we speak.

Ironic as it is, considering we're a web company, Sr. is sometimes "technologically challenged" so he prefers to write out his thoughts the old fashion way (ya know.... using an actual pencil and paper!) and we get it typed for him.

Because of this, response times can be delayed on occasion. But I spoke with him just moments ago and he is planning to post a response ASAP. Thanks!

May I suggest hiring more employees, both here and overseas.  You gotta quality check your product before shipping it against the client's specs.

Your employees appear to be handling too heavy of a work load.

    Hi All,

Thought I'd chime in too. Being a Hair Tech who looks at these every day I can tell you that to pick up on a difference of 5-10% density being off is going to be pretty much impossible for the most part. This is 5-10 hairs difference per cm.

We certainly do try to catch all of the problems before they leave our premises but in most cases we will only catch the glaring problems when checking things. We are human after all.Huh? [:^)]

I myself have matched up a piece to an order and the entire thing was a perfect match according to specs but the client was not satisfied.

We do understand this as a company and do offer the guarantee for this reason.

Bottom line I think is that we are all very proud of the product we send as a companyBig Smile [:D]

I was supposed to get a HD03 base and they sent a HD21.  That should be glaring.

Anyway, my Tech is doing a great job to work with me.  I just wish it was correct to begin with.

No [N]first of all-when the first post here said "hair shaft density" I meant matching human hair to lost human hair. When the HD tech Melissa says that "density"mistakes are pretty much impossible I wish she would have read the thread closer-

also are you telling me I didn't have a replacement problem-me who wears the replacement? ok.......

Thank you Hair Lady and all the rest of you great guys for coming to our defense on the message board.  This is an opened forum and we never edit anything, although we easily could.  People sing our praises and when people are not happy, they are also welcomed on our message board.

Hair Lady, you are absolutely correct, and you have a good knowledge of this industry after your 40+ years of experience.  I totally concur with everything that you said.

Unfortunately this industry of ours is not an exact science but rather an art
form and like snow flakes there has never been two identical custom units made.
Until they can be machine made, and even then the hair is subjective based on
the donors diet, environment, chemicals used and genetic predisposition.

We do however have control over hair lengths and the base materials, should always be as they were ordered.  With the custom hair system, there are literally
thousands of variables to be considered.  There is nothing I would love
to do more then to turn this into a science rather then an art form, and trust
me, I'm working towards that end.

It is our deepest desire with every transaction with each and every one of our clients to always hit a home run. But, unfortunately sometimes we strike out.  I do appreciate you bringing it to our attention when we do strike out. I love all you people that come to our defense and I love all you people who make us vividly aware of all the areas that we need to improve.  We are going to keep doing our best.

    Have a great hair day.

Big Smile [:D]its nice to know the proprietor of the joint cares enough to join the discussion

this is a forum after all and very refreshing in its comprehensive information and incredible in its aspects of sharing the trials of hair replacement-

once again-HD is a godsend to a guy like me-its just so damn good that I suppose I'd like the product to be a science and not an art like Bill says, however, my meager knowledge of the craft obviously maks me now feel short-sighted.

for what HD has done right-let me sing its praises-for what may go wrong in the future, I'll contact my hair tech
