Red Spots and Skin Sensitivity and Recommendations

  • Red Spots and Skin Sensitivity and Recommendations

I removed last night and continue to have red spots from the tape.  Still no itching or pain, but the red marks are a concern.  I wear between 7 and 10 days.    For those  who have tried supertape and have experienced red marks and skin sensitivity,  what would you recommend I try next, which would provide that kind of hold but possibly less reaction to my skin?

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi Encouraged,

The first question that I need to ask is...Do you use a Scalp Protector as a waterproof barrier between your scalp and the adhesive? If not, this would be extremely beneficial because it can protect your skin from any adverse reactions to adhesives.

John, As Mary recommended a scalp protector or I suggest a liquid bandage product , to put a layer betwwen the tape and you skin. I also get a much stronger bond using a thin layer or two of NuSkin liquid bandage.

Encouraged/John said in his Maxim post that he uses scalp protector. I use it as well and still experience the irritation. Since the skin is not broken and the redness never gets worse, I don't worry about it. I assume it is just the result of tape being stuck on the skin constantly and the skin not being able to breathe or the redness could simply come from pulling the tape off of the skin causing the blood to come to the surface. Occasionally I take my unit off at night and sleep with it off and the pink ring is still around my head in the morning. I have very sensitive skin. It is actually painful to me to scrub certain areas of my head with the exfoliating glove. But again, there is no breakage in the skin or blood. It is not painful or itchy and there are no sores or pustules.  It's just a sensitive area being irritated by the adhesive, much like any other place on my body would be if I had tape stuck to it all the time.Smile

I concur with Curly Sue. My scalp is not nearly as sensitive so the pink color goes away within a couple of hours when I leave my hair off for the night (sometimes I love those business trips because I get to sleep "naked" - get your minds out of the gutter, I'm talking about my head!) My pink is never painful, nor does it cause me any concern since it's just temporary and has no effect on my attachment.

If the irritation bothers you and you want a change, I would try the NS pro tapes in the black package. I also use these and mix them up with the supertape.

Not born with hair, but I've got
    the intelligence to find it,
the money to pay for it,
the patience to "stick" it on just right,
the will to make it work,
the confidence to wear it boldly
and the smile to wear under it!

I too have sensitive red skin from Supertape.. even with protectors and liquid bandaid.

Try using a white glue ( safegrip ) two thin layers on one of your rotations. See if that feels better.

Mary, I do. I spray two coats of scalp protector before attaching.
