Hair replacement systems custom-made anddelivered to your door. 100% guaranteed!
My contract with my stylist is soon to expire and I have been trying to decide if I can go it alone and de/re attach my hair systems myself or to renew my contract with the salon. In anticipation of possibly doing this myself while saving thousands of dollars every year, I've been reading many forum postings and educating myself as best I can. Recently I've noticed quite a few comments from HD clients of the inconsistencies of the densities and base sizes of their systems. This is really making me nervous about becoming an HD customer. I understand that each system is made by different people and from different donor hair. I can live with some slight differences between systems, but when the densities are so thin that they look like the person is balding, or the hair is falling out too rapidly or the base sizes are so different with each order that the systems look like they belong to someone else, this really worries me about taking the plunge to become an HD customer. Is HD looking into these quality control issues and trying to find solutions so this doesn't become the norm instead of the exception? I would really like to become an HD customer, but I can't afford the time and money to constantly send systems back and forth for corrections.

I can't speak for the conisttency of the systems here except to say that my father who's been wearing pieces for 40 years (NewMan) was very impressed with the 4 HD pieces he ordered earlier this year. One of the things I like about this board that even though it's owned by HD they always seem to allow genuine discussions about their products and their competitors.
Last year my contract was up with one of the better (not Farrell or a big chain) replacement "salons" in the city and quite frankly due to the econonomy they have been making everyone a really good deal for over a year. While it's still more expensive than HD I am comfortable with the price though may go for HD pieces in the near future.Look at gyms, spas etc...Even Equinox which is an upscale chain of gyms here in Manhattan does not have any contracts to sign and allows everyone to go month to month and what used to be $250 initiation fee is now only about $50 and I hear if you ask for it to be waived they will do it. Times are tough for many business and if you like the quality of where you go now but are hesitant of signing up for a long term contract you should discuss it with them.
When discussing it with them I would not bring up any competitors or going to HD unless necessary. You can say that given this economy you would hope they understand you don't want to get into any long term committments but you do want to remain a client...can you go to them on a month to month basis? At that point you keep quiet..dont' explain, or get too wordy..just wait for their answer. If they value your business they are either going to say yes to your request or offer you some type of discount or shorter contract. If they say no, and give some excuse that's a great sign to either go to HD or somewhere else. One thing I have learned while reading the boards here is that HD genuinely cared about their clientele.
NYNY,
Thanks for the reply. Your ideas sound like worth a try considering the economy right now. I'm not sure if my salon would go for it since they are one of the only salons working with hair systems in the area I live, so they have a monopoly on it and can pretty much charge what they want and set up their contracts how they want. That's why HD sounds so great. The pictures posted on this site are amazing. The HD techs really sound like they will do just about anything to make their customers happy (something that doesn't happen too often anymore). And the support of other hair wearers on this board is like a close family. All this is something I have been looking forward to being part of along with the freedom and independence to do my hair myself, when I want while saving a lot of money. With the money I would save, I would be able to purchase more systems in a year and have better looking hair all the time instead of my hair looking ratty for half a year like it does now. I think the problem is at the factory. Maybe the number of HD clients has increased so rapidly that the factory can't keep up and their quality is slipping. I don't know, but I can say my mom recently became a HD customer and has experienced similar inconsitencies and those posted on this site. She had to send her system back a couple of times because of a color error on her part and the poor hair quality of that system. HD remade her systems to her liking without charging her anymore money. That speaks volumns as to HD's great customer service. Her third system has the correct color, but the base has a slight recession in front which is differnet than her original specs . She wears bangs so the recession can be covered up, but why is her base so different from her first system? She is a happy customer, mostly because of the great customer service and is planning on ordering more systems in the future. It's the quality control at the factory I'm concerned about.
Quality control is something everyone is concerned about, no matter who you go with there is always the unexpected, it can unfortinately happen with HairDirect or the others. Thats the nature of mail order hair no matter who it is with. You dont see it until it arrives. Some companies will wash their hands of it once you get it , others will ummm and arrrrrr about replacing it.
One of the great things about HairDirect is their customer service, if your not happy with it, send it back to be fixed or ur money back. They are always happy to help and always try to strive for the best outcome always. No company can beat their aftersales service and their customer service.
This is one of the main factors why many are with HD, because of the fine service they give.
Doing it yourself isnt hard, it takes time to get use to doing it, working out how to do it, but after a few goes its simple. The hardest part doing it yourself is getting it in the right spot perfect everytime, but even then there are alot of tricks to use, to get it right aways.
The good thing about the forum is, if you are unsure, ask, and someone will answer.
If its HairDirect it looks good.
