Hello everyone,
I'm home relaxing and thinking on saturday, october 10 2009, and this is my first few weeks of NOT itching or having irritations with my HD24 unit.
I just want to say that after i looked in the mirror a few minutes ago and saw my partial unit and how great it look, and after i rem and reattach and styled, today, i want to just thank EVERYONE for putting up with my long long long e-mails, me questioning everything, getting feedback, recommendations, suggestions, trying different products, accepting advice, listening to Kathryn in person, that i can say today that i feel that i have ARRIVED!! (tears)
Through these 5 months, I'm now back to using supertape for the left and right sides of my unit, using walker no shine for the front and back and using NS 5000 PX to fill in the gaps on the corners and i cut small pieces of the NS to put in the center bottom of my unit and at the top. I no longer put tape at the true center of my scalp because that was where i ended with so much irritation after i resolved the itching, and now that has subsided. I prefer tapes to liquid adhesives.
Also, i added (2) more photos to the gallery with me having a different style, by bringing my hair toward the front and having what i call "bangs", sort of speak.
I feel good enough today that i have to share my feelings about this because of the journey of these first 5 months of doing something so brand new for me that i almost gave up only the 2nd day that my unit was bonded.
i haven't shared that to most people before, but i did mention it to Bill Sr. when i was there on sept 4 2009. In the beginning, it didn't seem that this was the right method for me just because i thought that the itching was really being caused by the lace itself.
i didn't want to believe that, so i persisted, talked about my concerns, and finally as of today, i can say that i can actually demonstrate to someone else how to rem and retape and reattach as a mentor or to just help another newcomer that will came behind me.
I have been on a 20 year journey of losing my topical hair or trying to do whatever i needed to do to cover up my thinning hair, since i was about 35 years old and now at 59 and a half, i'm feeling like i have found the next best solution before shaving the rest of my head, by finding HD and this special message board.
My self confidence and self esteem has been there for years as a part of my growth process, and because i feel good about life in general, i now can also look as good as i've always wanted to when it came to keeping my natural hair.
Everyone who wears a unit can relate to the feeling of loss and i'm no different.
Again, i'm so thankful for everyone and if i could give everyone a hug, i would. This point in time in life is another part of my own particular life's journey, but i could not have done this part of my journey without your help.
Who knows how i would feel in the future about hair systems or if anything may develop, but life is guaranteed, nor is happiness, but for now, i'm overjoyed and i just wish my former HD hair specialist Kathy could read this message. She would have been so proud of me because she was the first one that gave me the courage to continue, in spite of my negative feelings, and to also jump in a pool with my unit on!
I finally did it and my photos are in the HD photo gallery to prove it!
So i will close for now by saying that with this self help board and the people of HD, i'm where i am today, feeling good and looking the way i want with topical hair that i can style, AGAIN!
With sincere thanks,
-Donald

Hey, buddy. Great post.
A mixture of my being busy to a point of exhaustion, depressed, and other weird factors made me lurk this forum forever, before finally posting.
I regret that I wasn't an actual poster during your trial and error days, nor when you first started to get it right... but, rest assured, I was silently rooting for you when you had difficulties. And, when you finally figured it all out, I rejoiced FOR you.
You've been a huge inspiration.
Many times that I would say how, due to attachment difficulties, I was never going to wear my hair again, some of your experiences kept me going.
My wife even began to remind me about you, as I'd said many times, "Well, there's this guy, Donald T., on that board... he was ready to give up on his 2nd day of wearing, and now he's making a video with those folks."
I'm proud to know ya, bro.
Walter
Donald the last 5months has been on great journey that you have taken, I remember the beginning when I first saw your posts here on the HD forum to right now. Im sure anyone who is sitting on the fence wondering what to do, thinking should i do it, or should i persist with what i have, should read your posts im sure alot of people when they see your posts think wow great donalds written again. I wonder what he wrote and how his hair is going.
I know from all the posts I had read I can see the big steps taken, and its great to have a fine example here like yourself. I cant wait til the video is out after seeing the shorts its going to be great.
All of us think at the beginning its pretty hard, but in time we think its not that hard after all, even with some of the teething problems, itches, and other things that can be annoying.
But when you look in the mirror and think this is all worth the effort it leaves us with the confidence we have always wanted to have and wondered why it took along time.
I hope all those who are wondering should they or shouldnt they, ask heaps of questions and take the plunge.
I know I am happy wearing the hair I have, I know if this forum was about when I started there would have been alot of changes made and everything, but its great offering a good word or idea that has worked.
If its HairDirect it looks good.
Walter,
Thank you so much for your own gratitude, because we all are in this together dealing with the same common issues of hair loss and trying to do something about it
But because i share and care i reveal so much about my own "feelings" good or bad, about what is going on with me and my hair system, that i know i'm not alone and it is people like yourself, too, that gives inspiration to me.
You give me the confidence that i'm sharing my experiences, my strengths, and my hopes in the most positive way i know how because like you said, even your wife reminds you about my stories on the board. So i'm helping myself along with someone else. What more is important than reaching out...
What a very encouraging jesture from your wife, too, and the way that all of these personal communications help us all in one way or the other.
It is also good to know you, too, no matter that we are all on an electronic board! The feeling of reality is here no matter how we communicate. Some people talk on the phone, text message, twitter, instant message, e-mail, etc., and we have our method on this message board.
One never knows when one is speaking about their own issues or concerns or happiness, for that matter, and how it can affect another person and we all end of keeping each other on track, in spite of some of our hesitations or doubts.
Last but not lest, this entire process is just that, a process, and unless i go through the process, i wouldn't know if i would make it to the finish line.
So i tried and i succceeded in my quest because i needed to do something different and i'm thankful that i found a place like HD via google.com!
Again, i appreciate your feedback and tell your wife she is an excellent motivator for you, i can tell!
Take care,
Pete,
I want to thank you for your honesty. I appreciate your feedback and how i tend to persist and keep going on in spite of my issues. But my happiness is something that i know we all want to achieve and with feeling good on the INSIDE, i wanted to and i found a place such as HD to help me in challenging my fears of wearing a hair system and to look flawless and undetectable.
For these 5 months, i have gone through more about hair systems than i expected, but what i've learned will always be there for me to share with others and i have everything written down in my journal on my hair journey and it helps me in knowing what works and what didn't or did, etc.
You are right, when i look in the mirror and see what has been accomplished, i almost go into tears again because for decades of losing hair and using hair fibers, etc., and creating those hair illusions every morning, and now what i have to deal with my HD 24 full lace unit is nothing compared to all that work i used to go through.
That is why i continued on this journey because i knew that the itching and knowing which tapes would be best for me, would be solved sooner or later, just because of my own body chemistry and each one of us will have some similar experiences but some of us will have unique ones, and other side effects, that someone may not, too.
But overall, i'm so please that i just can't wait to get out and socialize with friends, family, colleagues and look good on the OUTSIDE, too, just like i feel on the INSIDE. I want to be seen more than i used to now. I make sure i go to the gym now and swim because it was one of my passions, and now i can and not worry about losing the hair fibers. (i do use a silicone swimming cap, though and that is to protect my system).
I understand your point about if this forum was around when you started, you probably would have saved yourself a lot of time, energy, and money, i'm sure.
I took feel the same way. I didn't find this site until february 2009, after years of substituting with hair products and i had one day of wearing a Hair Club unit years ago, and had them to take it off the very next day. It was not real looking and i pay thousands and then a contract and then a monthly maintenance fee would have been paid, too.
Again thanks Pete,
hi donald,
i am glad that you are now happy with the whole situation because i remember your stress from the earlier stages of your journey..
hopefully, one day, your posts will not be as long hehe
hairdude,
Thanks for your post. I appreciate it.
As far as my long posts, in the future, to be just a little bit shorter (lol), i can understand your point of view. But one of my professions is being a writer at my day job and sometimes i also talk almost as long as i write, because i'm also a computer trainer at my day job, too! So my writing skills is something that i developed over years, but i do need to remember when i read on this board, that this is almost like e-mailing, but still a little different.
But to be honest though, there are people that feel the need to express themselves and sometimes one can be just too wordy and i know that about myself, so i accept your feedback as a positive. I've also seen other writings on this board and i sometimes have to print them out to read them on my sofa because they are long, too! (smile) So i'm not alone...
I do need to slow down and try to keep my posts as short as i can, but not as short as yours! (lol) Now remember, when posts are too short, the message may not come across completely or can be misunderstood because of the need for more clarification.
Not justifying my long post, i even admitted my long writing in my first post of this thread, so i'm the first to bring it up, but as a profession, it is not easy to come to the message board and remember where i'm writing.
i also know that everyone does not read everything in a post, short or long, on this board just because the information may not be relevant to the person who is reading it. So i read what i want to read and leave the rest, especially if i don't have the time.
But this is not the first time i've heard this from a board member, so i'm open minded and that is why i will take your advice seriously, whenever i can.
Even though you are joking, i know that you are also serious because i know that i write too long, too. So we are on the same page, not a problem!
Thanks again for your help in this matter...i will find a balance for my future posting, but i may not be able to write as short as you, but i will try to write shorter than my own! (smile) It will be a challenge for me, indeed!
You are a good example of how posts that may be too long for some, but just right for others, is why everyone is so different in so many ways.
Some like "one liners", some like one paragraph, some like much more detail in the writing. So i will never be able to satisfy everyone or anyone that may not want to read a long post.
But i will never sacrifice my own personl beliefs just because of some criticism about "shortening my posts", because if i live by what others may say about me, i would be in a "psych ward" by now (lol) or crazy or just as bad, may have lived for what others want me to do, and that is not reality!
So, thanks for the support...and if i find it necessary, i will write my thoughts and if they are too long for some, then it wasn't meant for them but for those than may have the time and patience, even if someone was "joking" about it.

great post donald,
BTW what camera do u use for your pics its really great?
gematria12,
Thanks...i appreciate it and all of my HD photos, i took myself! My digital camera, like most cameras these days, has a feature that you can take "self-photos", in 10 seconds. !
The camera that i have is called the OLYMPUS FE-340. Launch the link below and you can see more detail information. I just can't say enough about this camera, but that it is so nice and easy to use. For instance and depending on MByte settings, i can take over 1200 photos at once. This is excellent for when you are on a vacation, and will never run out of film, and that is why digital is such a great technology, no more standard film packets with this type of camera.

Fugifilm digital cameras are also excellent pieces of hardware, too, by the way, which i used to own before i lost it on a vacation trip, unfortunately! http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-Finepix-F50fd-Digital-Stabilization/dp/B0002EQUIA
Heartfelt and real as always, Donald. Thanks!
And keep the long emails and posts coming!

Donald,
I must say that I love reading your long posts, it's great seeing how your journey unfolds every step of the way! I'm so glad that you were able to finally find success with HD and I know that it will only continue! Keep those posts coming!

HD-Mike,
Thanks for your feedback and others on this board, that feel i should "be myself" and just continue my long posts, in spite of...
As i stated once on this thread to Pete, if i live by someone's opinion about what i should NOT do, then i would not be ME. Everyone is unique in my eyes, in their own way, and short or long posts can be beneficial to all, NOT just looking at the length of the message.
Quite frankly, it is NOT the length, it is the substance of the message and in my posts, sometimes some of the most important information is at the end!
Patience and tolerance is my motto...
HD-Lauren,
I thank you and HD-Mike, too, because this just shows me that i'm doing the right thing in posting my feelings, experiences, concerns, and also the most important, my SUCCESSES that i want to share with everyone, when it comes to conquering my issues or concerns about hair loss and my hair systems.
To be honest, with my long posts, there is an advantage for me and that is my goal of writing a book about my life one day and as someone on this board say once before, "you can write a book" the way you write. I took that one as a compliment because that is exactly my goal in life, so i'm on the right track! (smile)
I will keep them coming for those that have the patience and tolerance and the time!
I also want you to know that this is my 3rd week of NOT feeling any itch or irritation! I posted a very long (smile) post (see link below) about this particular subject in sept, i believe, and i allowed my topical natural hair to grow back as much as it could, and because of Kathryn's suggestion about letting my hair grow back to be a "buffer" between the lace and my scalp, my issue is being resolved and i feel so free now to REALLY enjoy my new hair!
