  • Full lace systems

With much trepadation I have ordered a full lace system. I am a female alopecia sufferer and heretofore, have had systems with some poly in the perimeter.  However, it is pretty hot where I live and I am looking for more of a lightweight system.

I wonder are there other women who have used a full lace system, and could give me information on what to expect as far as durability are concerned.  I am a little afraid will will get a month out of it and be ordering again.

I was wondering about the same thing! Please check out the reply I got from HD: http://community.hairdirect.com/forums/1664/showpost.aspx

I am having one made as we speak so I guess I will see.  I think the post you referred me to is from the lady that I work with at HD.  She is very nice and she says she had done a full cap, full lace one for someone, but for confidentiality reasons, I was unable to contact her. I notice that the men can do what they call a "disposable" hair piece out of lace and they have to have one made every month which is kind of frightening.

If the lace is that much better, I may do that since I live in a very hot climate.

Hi SRS! I also live in a very hot climate and suffer terribly, especially during summers. The full lace cap is a very tempting thing to try. However, since it is so fragile, i'm thinking that i can't afford to buy disposables. I ordered mine with Hollywood lace around the perimeter only (1 inch), so i get the natural hairline all around. It is very lightweight compared to the previous one I had from my other hair company. But since you placed your order already for a full lace, please don't forget to update us on how it goes!!! Thank you!!

    SRS,

I think men may be able to use the full lace systems because as a general rule they aren't asking for the heavier density and length that women are probably going to be asking for. But then I  am just guessing. Hey guys any in put on the subject?

An all mono #0.12 is a good, strong,  lace alternative as it is a woven and welded nylon mesh similar to lace. It comes in many colors and can be used at the edge. Bonding can be done with strong tapes like the ProFlex (awesome tape!) or glues such as UltraHold.

The hairs can be knotted much more tightly and wont shed as easily as lace vented hairs will. This material can handle the weight and length of womens hair all wet too no problem.

I finally got around to really looking at and reading about the different caps. The HD08 that bald and Beautiful described sounds perfect with  9 to 12 months projected durability. It does sound perfect. I haven't done a search yet on repairs. Does anyone have experience in that area?

Hi Cynthin! Just to clarify things, HD08 is not what is described. HD08 has poly perimeter which looks unnatural compared to lace perimeter.

My hairpiece base is not one of the bases featured on this webside- I thought of it myself and HD created it just the way I asked! My hairpiece has lace around the perimeter (1") and 1" of poly behind the lace. The rest (main base) is mono. You are right on the durability factor of HD08 though: a poly perimeter hairpiece should last for many months!

    Bald & Beautiful,

Wow, thanks so much for the quick reply. I plan to place my order this morning.

I'm just wondering, you said your full lace system was 'created' by you.  The way you describe it, sounds like it would last much longer than full lace and still be durable.  Are you still happy with it?  Is it undetectible all the way around?  How do you attach--with both glue and tape or only glue?
  • Re: Full lace systems

B&B, please tell us how long your own created system lasts.  And what you use to attatch.  It sounds like a very nice alternative and would be good for undectability all the way around.  Thanks for the info.  Denny

    Newbie and Dennynky:

I am very happy with my system. It gives me an undetectible hairline, and durability. I only have to be very careful with the 1" lace material around the perimeter. The rest is very solid.

I've been wearing it for 2 months now and there are minimal signs of damage. I'm extra careful with handling it though. It's my first HD unit, so I can't tell how long it will eventually last, but so far, so good.

I use Ultra Hold for the front and sides. For the back I have 2 options: (a) If i'm really lazy, I put tape on the poly perimeter, and, because the hair is long, one cannot tell that my back hairline is further up than it's supposed to be. The bad thing about this is that I can't put my hair up in a ponytail. (b) The other option, which i'm still working on in order to perfect it, is using UH at the back at well. That's the best way to go, for me at least.

  • Re: Full lace systems

I actually ordered the same type of base that Bald & Beautiful described because it sounded good to me. When I spoke to the tech however they suggested I stick with the Mono with poly perimeter. I went ahead with their suggestion. Since I am new to this and have never worn or maintained a system before they felt it would be more durable for me. I can order something else next time. Since I am concerned about how hot it will be I think I will order a lace unit with a poly perimeter next time but I am not sure. I am waiting, waiting , waiting for my first system to arrive. Hopefully this week?

Bald and Beautiful and Cynthin, thank you for the information.  I'll be getting my starter kit tomorrow or the next day and will speak with a rep after that.  Thanks for the infor. It helps alot.

Hey, B&B.  Thanks so much for the timely response. Travel [ap] I'm on my first set of systems from HD and mine just has the thin poly around the back and sides up to the ear.  I am extremely careful with my edges, Zip it! [:#]but I think I could be a little less so with the type that you describe.

I think I will try your 'creation' next time.  Yes [Y]
