I have used Clairol Natural Instincts coloring many times in the past.  I goofed this time and used a much darker color than I meant.  The problem is that I cannot change the color at all.  The system won't accept any color, therefore it still way too dark.   I have tried to change the color 4 times, even using a light ash blonde but nothing changes the dark brown.  What can I do?  I believe this system is a mix of human and synthetic hair.

    Anne,

Uh Oh.  Sorry about your color dilema.  First of all, you cannot lift color with color.  In other words, if it is too dark, using a lighter color on it will do nothing.  The only thing that will lighten it is bleach . (not a good idea to do)  You will not be able to control the color and there are no guarantees what color it will end up being. No

Also, if your system is in fact 50% synthetic, you cannot color synthetic.  The only thing that would have taken the color would be the human.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with Clairol Nat. Instincts.  Is it a permanent or semi - permanent color?  If it is semi permanent, it will wash out over time.  I am sorry I don't have a quick fix for you.  I wish I could give you some hope.  Sorry.Sad

    Hi Anne:

Yep, I agree with Lisa, Unfortunately color does not lift color.  The only thing that might work is a color remover from a Beauty Supply store.  But I'm afraid that would damage the system even more.  One of my co-workers said that Matrix carries a color remover, you could probably go to a Sallys beauty supply and find that.  Good Luck!! Hmm

Thanks to both of you.  Usually Natural Instincts washes out over a period of time, so I will wash and wash!  I also know that heat will change the color, so the hair dryer should help too.  I'll check with the Sally's this week and see what they offer.  It's nuts though; I have never had this happen before.  I appreciate your help.  Anne
