more nightmare with cleanup :(

last night spent yet another long time cleaning up the system - not to mention my parents broke into the house and ask why i m wearing a hat and look freaked out... they ask what i have done with my hair since few months ago it look so much fuller... i ignore them, hided in my room and continue to soak my system.

the lace release just doesnt seems to work for me.. it does melt some of the glue but the glue are all sticking on the poly instead of my scalp.

After a few hours soaking the super tape... some part became greesy and i washed it off.. but that accoutns for 20% only... most tapes are not melted and some part with tape melted, i cannot wash the glue off!!

spent about 1 hour taking the tape off, it still look messy.. then i do the mirror slide and i ended up with only a partial clean system...

i was too tired, so i decided to stop cleaning and put it back on... at least i know my scalp is 90% clean (somehow i feel like some glue are on the scalp!)

again after attaching i feel like my right temple is lower than the left... but it is already stuck on my head... so i guess i can't do much about it

i am too tired it was 2am already... i felt asleep and pray that i can still look undetectable... altho it might be easier for me wearing a full cap with bangs.

thanks for reading and any insights to help me out is highly highly apperciated.

    Hello!

First of all, let me say that I wear a lace unit HD03, use supertape for attachment and C-22 for cleanup.

I spray C-22 on the tape, and leave for about 30 minutes, the more I leave it on the better. I don't soak, there's no need. Then I use a cotton, lint-free face towel, and gently rub the tape IN ONE DIRECTION  (from center of unit towards hairline). The tape comes right off, no residue, no mirror slide, and the lace is really really clean.

    Hope it helpsSmile

I'd like to help, but I am trying to understand exactly how you are cleaning your replacement.  It sounds as if you are physically trying to remove the tape and adhesive for hours on end.  Can you be a bit more specific as to how you are trying to do the clean up?  Let me just give you my method and you can decide if you want to use it or not.  No matter what tape or liquid adhesive I use, I always just completely submerge the entire replacement in Goo Gone, which I buy at a local hardware store.  I have a Tupperware I use for soaking and I seal it up when I am not soaking the hair.  I use it over and over until it's almost gone, then refill it with fresh solution.  I let it soak anywhere from 1 hour to overnight and then follow it up with a good rinsing and cleaning with Dawn dishwashing detergent, shampoo and conditioner.  Every bit of tape and adhesive is gone.  I also use the same cleaner on my scalp.  I take an old toothbrush, dip it into the Goo Gone and gently scrub my scalp.  I let it sit for a few minutes and shower it off with Dawn once again.  Be careful to find out if your skin is able to withstand the cleaner.  Personally, I have no problem with it.  There is no reason you shouldn't be able to get your piece spotless and have all of the adhesive removed just by letting it soak in the cleaner.  As for putting it back on, use Adjust A Bond or 99% alcohol on the adhesive before you put it back on.  It will give you a minute or so to slide it around until it is in the right spot. Let me know what you think of doing it this way.

    Thanks for your reply.
I was actually soaking with PURE Adhesive Remover in a tUpperware.. for about 1 hour. But only 20% of the tape became glue and be easily washed off.. most of the tape (80%) were still there so I need to peel them off manually :( I only soaked the base.

do you only soak the base of the system or do you soak the whole thing?  i find out the hair's colour was off AND that it dries out

There's no need to soak the unit, seriously. Just spray 6-7 times C-22 on the tape, leave 30 min and remove using a face towel. Removal takes 2-3 minutes, no residue, and the hair is not afftected, because the spray doesn't come in contact with the hair!

    Hi Emery,

I'm assuming you have poly around the sides and back. I too use supertape, but I use the red liner tape under it. My unit has a thin skin perimeter, when I take off my unit, I just peel the tape off right away, no soaking at all. Are you using the TDI knot sealer? I sprayed it on the skin part once and it took me forever to clean the tape off, never spray that stuff on poly or skin material, it's a clean up nightmare.

maybe i ll try the red liner tape... easy cleanup is definitely necessary

for C-22, not sure what that is.. but the lace release nor the pure adhesive remover can dissolve the strong super tape bonding :(

as for goo gone.. which goo gone are we talking about.. there seems to be a lot of goo gone product (http://www.google.com/products?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=WZPA,WZPA:2007-40,WZPA:en&q=goo+gone&um=1)

    thanks all

Wow!  I didn't know there were so many Goo Gone products.  I looked at my bottle and I use the one in the link that says "Magic Goo Gone", although it doesn't say magic on the bottle.  I know you're getting a lot of advice and it's all good advice from those of us who clean our units regularly.  However ... for some reason you are having a greater problem.  I also want to add that the worse thing you can do is try to "pick" tape or adhesive off of your lace.  All you'll do is pull hair out through the lace and your hairpiece will quickly turn bald ... sounds funny, but it is the truth.  Some people seem to have an easy time just wiping off the tape or adhesive and that's great for them.  As for me, I can't just wet the base with remover and wipe off the adhesive and tape.  It just doesn’t work for me because I use Ultra Hold on the poly and some of the strongest tapes on the lace.  I "SUBMERGE AND SOAK" the entire piece ... hair and all in Goo Gone, sometimes over night.  My suggestion is to get the Goo Gone or remover from HD and let the unit soak for several hours ... even longer.  You probably have adhesive built up on there that is very, very old and thick.  HD recommends soaking the entire unit, so there is no reason to keep fighting it ... desperate situations need desperate solutions and your situation sounds like no other ... so ... SOAK, SOAK and SOAK.  After you remove it, you can then gently scrape the poly part with the side of a teaspoon.  It works great at getting all of the residue off.  I'll assure you that the tape will fall right off the lace at this point.  Then, run warm water through the lace while holding the unit topside down under a faucet.  Then, soak the unit in the sink with water and Dawn detergent.  Rinse as above and do the Dawn thing again.  Then, soak it in a sink of water with your favorite shampoo, rinse and condition.  It will be spotless!!

    thankss so much!

just a thought... lace release only works on lace base but not poly base.. and it sounds to me that people who are using lace release is having a very easy time cleaning their unit... so given that, i m really consider switching to full lace instead of poly back or full cap. any thoughts on that?
