CT scans, MRIs, x-rays and wearing hair - first hand info

    Hi all,

Well, my island vacation didn't go quite as planned.  I had a not so little accident.  Seems I had an argument with 15 concrete and tile steps and lost.  I'm only a little worse for the wear and tear.

    Anyway...

There have been several questions regarding medical studies and the x-ray machines at airports.  Well, I have some conclusive first-hand information you'll be happy to hear.

I wear a lace base, full cap system.  After the fall on the island, I had to undergo plain x-rays and a CT scan.  I have seen the films and there is absolutely no evidence that I am wearing a wig.

Guess what else...I had a rather complex laceration just to the right of the center of my forehead.  One arm of the laceration extended just to my hairline.  The doc never suspected I was wearing a wig.  Neither did the nurse who did the initial cleanup of the wound.

I also sustained a rather nasty bump on the back of my head and when the doc was examining my head, she never guessed I was wearing a wig.  She definitely felt the lump, though.

Granted the medical care on the island was definitely less than up to par, but no one guessed I was wearing a wig.  In addition, the SuperTape bond stood up perfectly to the fall itself, the blood, antiseptic (providone iodine aka Betadine, and hydrogen peroxide), husband shampooing my hair about 24 hours later to get out the dried blood, etc.

After returning to the States, I had to undergo extensive medical tests and exams because of the subpar medical treatment on the island and the nature and severity of the injuries.  At no time did any of the docs or technicians suspect I wear a unit.  I had to tell the plastic surgeon because of the nature of the repair of the forehead wound and finally had to show her the edge of the system before she would believe me.  We looked at the films from the x-rays, CT scans and MRI scans done here in the States (much better resolution than the films taken on the island) and there was absolutely no indication that I am wearing a system.

The secret is that there is no metal and no metal-based materials in the hair system.  In addition, the cap fits like a second skin because I shave my head and the measurements for the cap were perfect.  There is not even a shadow where the lace overlaps at the crown of the system.  I was going to upload the pictures that were taken of my wounds the day after the accident, but they are more than a little messy, so what I will do is upload the before and after pics when the forehead scar is revised.  Those won't be quite so yukky looking.

So, for those of you concerned about whether or not your system is detectable on x-rays - the answer is a resounding, first-hand  NO.  This is the case IF the system is fitted properly and there is no metal of any kind in the system.

If you are using SuperTape as your bond, I am walking proof that that tape will stand up to just about anything.  I don't want you to think for a minute that I regard this accident as a joke - not in the slightest - but I have to tell you that even I had no idea that my hair and bond would come thorugh like they did.  I give you my personal guarantee that if your system is fitted properly and bonded securely, it is undetectable.

    Thank you, HD.  YesYesYesYesYes

I'm feeling much better but still have a ways to go.  The first four days of the trip were pure heaven, the last three not so great.  My days as a super model are over Stick out tongue.  Actually, I was really very lucky and the fall could have been much, much worse.  My Guardian Angel will probably be on tranquilizers for quite a while.  CoolWink
