Full Scalp vs. Perimeter Bond

  • Full Scalp vs. Perimeter Bond

Up to now I have used a full poly base or a 3/4 poly base with a lace front.  I attached the poly base with various liquid adhesives but always used a full scalp bond.  I recently changed my SOP order for my first lace unit with only a poly perimeter.  I was wondering how you feel about only bonding the perimeter and having the rest of the piece just sit on your head without any bonding attachment.  I would think that as tight as the perimeter may be, the remainder of the unit would still feel as if it were a bit loose ... almost as if you could pull it up 1/16" to 1/8" from the scalp in the center.  I doubt that you can stretch the lace tight enough where the top and crown is pulled so tight against your scalp that you can't pull it up at all.  Any input on how it feels?  Does a strip or two of tape across the top of your scalp help to make it feel more secure?  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Thanks, Joe

    Hey Joebell,

I suggest you try just a perimeter bond.  You're correct, in that the base will pull up in the middle if you pull on the hair (just because the lace will stretch); however, it's quite snug and taught against your scalp.  As you suggested, a single strip down the middle can help with that.

I've used the full scalp bond in the past with a poly unit, and I can tell you it feels great to go with the lace and perimeter bond.  When you shower you can feel the water against your scalp, not to mention the wind when outside.  It's very liberating!

Thanks for the reply Bob.  I certainly will go with the perimeter bond and see how it feels to me.  I recall when I first started wearing a replacement, it was with a national club.  They did only a perimeter bond with some type of mesh base.  Although the mesh was visible, it did let in the air and the water ... probably the only good thing about it.  I moved to the poly with another club because it looked more natural.  It sounds as if you wouldn't do anything but the perimeter bond, which I'm sure makes clean up much faster and easier also.  I have about another 4 or 5 weeks left before my first lace base order arrives and I'm looking forward to it.  Thanks again!

A strip or two of Proflex or SuperTape down the middle is necessary to avoid "shifting" during sleep and such.  At least, that's been my experience.
