question regarding bonding

  • question regarding bonding

hi, i am re-thinking my bonding regimen and was wondering if i could have some advice. i currently have a poly-lace piece and i i bond around the perimeter with red tape about once a week. i switched from clips to bonding last year because the clips hurt after wearing the piece all day, and i wanted to wear something at night. but honestly i don't like the whole shaving, scalp-prep protocol and i really am leary about using adhesives all the time because my scalp stings alot and feels raw. this is what i am pondering: i might want to grow my hair back to a few inches and then use clips in the back and tape down an area around the front with clear tape (i have bangs). then i was thinking i would wear it like that for two days with clear medical grade tape and unclip the back at night so it would not tug. does this sound irrational? i am not sure what the advantage would be--if any --but i am just worried about long-term bonding because my scalp is sensitive.

thanks for any insights or experience.

    Hi Jean,

Just realized that no replies had come in for your question yet so I thought I would chime in!  I would imagine that using those clips, whether or not they were unattached or attached, would be very uncomfortable.  If you want to skip the whole scalp prep and shaving thing, but still want your unit attached....I have a suggestion.

My recommendation is that you only try my suggestion in one area (maybe where you are now using the tape) for about a month or so to see if it will work for you.  Then, if it works, you can use it as an all-over method of attachment.

Instead of shaving your head, use some clippers to clip your hair VERY short, but not all the way to your scalp.  Next, use a product called Got2b glued.  It is a water resistant styling, spiking glue made by Schwarzkopf and sold in almost every drug store.  Rub this "glue" all over where you want your unit attached...even on top of the clipped hair. Next, place your unit on top of the glue and gently, with the teeth of a comb, push the unit down and hold it for a few moments while the "glue" dries.  Be very careful not to let the glue push through the unit, or you will have a lot of the gel in your hair.

The benefit of this is that there is no special prep (or cleanup) needed.  It washes away with soap and water and there are no adverse reactions on your scalp...well, at least I haven't noticed any!

If you have any questions, drop me a note!  Hope this helps...

Not born with hair, but I've got
    the intelligence to find it,
the job to pay for it,
the patience to "stick" it on just right,
the will to make it work,
the confidence to wear it boldly
and the smile to wear under it!

Just wondering about the got2bglue stuff how long does this stay on? Does it dry clear and can you use it on lace?

    thanks

Hi and thanks Babe for that info.  I have had a system (bought from a salon) for about 4 months now and each month I go for re-bonding I absolutely dread the week or 2-3 weeks before because of the lifting of the unit from my scalp.  BTW, I am ordering one from HD and am making a 3 1/2 hour trek there in about 10 days.  In the meantime though I wanted something to keep things down so I bought that Got2Bglued tonight.  I'll wash my hair in the morning and then apply it so I'll let you know how that goes.

Can't wait till I visit HD for my new beautiful head of hair;-)

    Babe-

How long does this method last? Is it just for daily wear? If I understand correctly, essentially you are "glueing" you piece down with hair gel, right??

Hi and just a little update on the "Got 2B Glued" stuff.  I've got to say that I've had good results with it during the last week.  I put a little bit under in the front and that stuff kept things down really well.  It does wash away very easily but its a snap to apply and forget about it.  Good tip!

BTW.....just came back from HD in PA (4 hour drive) and it was such a good experience.  I learned so much and when my new system comes in, I'll post somewhere again and give my two-cents opinionSmile  So far, so good!

    Hi Sue-

Is this gel a daily use product? Do you take your hairpiece off every day?

  • Re: question regarding bonding

You know, I'm fairly new to all this but when I read about using it I just went out and got it.  I think I put it on Wed. morning in just a couple of spots that were lifting and it was good till yesterday (Saturday) when I took off the hair.  So far I am removing the system every four weeks because I was going to a salon and can't afford to go more often (it runs me $100 each time).  But I took a long drive to HD yesterday and I'm going to do it myself now.  I'm not getting rid of that glue stuff either.  I think it comes in handyWink

That's interesting. I was at HD last week too and just did my first reattachment. It's a bit loose in some places. It would be nice to have a less toxic product like this gel to use for touch-ups. I'm gonna get me some! Thanks!

Good luck and let us know how it went..Yes

Check out my way-too-much-information post from yesterday..."Attaching long curly hair"

Seems to be attached better today than it was yesterday.

    Thanks!

    Hey there-

I tried to use the Got2BeGlued stuff to hold my front edge down but it didn't work. It just matted my hair really badly. I was disappointed  Sad  but am glad it's working for you! Yes

  • Re: question regarding bonding

Did you put it on a "clean" area?  I mean whether its shaved or clipped very short.  Otherwise what hair got matted?  It doesn't take much to stick.
  • Re: question regarding bonding

Well, the front edge of the hairpiece butts up to my own bangs. This entire edge (about 1/4") is not sticking to my head. I used a tiny makeup brush to brush the gel onto the underneath edge of the lace that isn't sticking and even though I used a comb to hold it down it just matted the bangs in the piece and the root edge of my own bangs. I tried it on two separate occasions and couldn't get it to work either time. Technically that's not a clean area because I accidentally put the piece too close to my own hairline which is why it's not sticking in the first place. I am do a de- and reattach this weekend so hopefully my second try will be better.
