Hair replacement systems custom-made anddelivered to your door. 100% guaranteed!
I've been wearing a hair system since 1980, can't say I have ever had one that gave me complete confidence. That is until I received my first order from Hair Direct. Wow, incredible, I couldn't believe a hair system could look so good. I can honestly say it's the first time in over twenty years I felt completely confident wearing a hair piece. When I wear my system nobody stares at my hairline, it's truely undetectable. However this is where my praise stops.
I was so impressed with HDC's product I signed up for the automatic order program. Unfortunely this is when my problems began. As soon as I received my next two units I scheduled an appointment with my stylist. She cut in the unit just like my first piece. This unit seemed to have mind of it's own, we couldn't get it styled right no matter what we did, I even had her re-cut it a second time. I became so frustrated with it that I ended up throwing it away. OK, now on to the second unit. It too seems to have a control problem, not as bad as the other one but enough of a problem that it is unwearable. I notice a difference in the way it looks when it's on my scalp. Instead of looking through the unit and seeing my own scalp, it has a chalkish grey look to it, which makes the frontal area very noticeable. All the knots it the frontal area where not bleached properly so it has the doll hair plug look to it.
What's all this leading too? I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any of the same problems I have encountered. I can't believe my first unit was so impeccable and the last two have been a disaster. I feel I've become a victim of the old bait and switch con.
Just so you know, I order the HD24 systems, medium light density, freestlye. I also tan with my hairpiece off so my scalp is the same color as my face.
Can anybody help me? I would appreciate any and all advise.
Thank you
Steveaustin
I`ve worn hair from alot of different online companies and can tell you that as far the knot bleaching, most of the suppliers will falter on that at one time or another.
So with much experimenting, time, effort and money spent I`ve learned to do it myself, and here`s how you do it properly-
Go to a beauty supply store and purchase 40% cream developer and some white powder bleach. Ask the cute girl to help you find them :)If theres no cute girl there, go to a different store.
Anyhow, after you get the two items take them home and mix equal amounts of both with a small art brush into a small bowl. You should use at least one tablespoon of each. I use an empty butter bowl. And an art brush. A small one.
Apply to the underside of the lace with the brush, making sure the knots are all covered in white. If you can see knots after you spread the mix on, then the mix is not on the knots, so use the brush to push the mix down through the lace, and onto the knots.
Wait no longer than 30 minutes, rinse from the bottom side out, shampoo, dry, and enjoy you`re erased knots.
As far as your styling problem, what type of hairstyle are you operating? Shorter styles are typically tough to maintain. Longer ones should`nt be. There is one thing to consider and that is the fact that there is a bit of a settling down period involved with some new hairpieces. Alot of times a brand new one is "poofy" and unsettled until you`ve broken it in by wearing it, sleeping in it, and especially wetting it down and styling it until its trained for a few days. I`ve experienced that from time to time.
If it still wont train there is a product that will make it go where you want, its called Krew Comb heres a link-

You can style unruly steel wool with that product.
The chalk look is something that I`ve not heard of. Is the base the same type as your first one that looked good? Is there a way you can post pics of this phenomenom? Just a thought, it could very well be related to the knots being unbleached. Unbleached knots leave not only little dark colored dots all over the place, but I`ve noticed a grid like pattern.
Without seeing your base I cant say for sure whats going on there.

Steve,
This is unfortunate you have experienced a QC issue with you last 2 systems. You say that you threw away one of the new systems? I would have talked to the Hair Tech and explained there was a problem and returned it to have it re-made (for free). If the 2nd one you say you can't wear, call 'em up. There's a chance they could quickly correct the problem(s) in Bainbridge, or they will completely redo it at no additional costs to you. I have personally had a couple issues in the past that I felt could have been averted, had my systems been inspected prior to shipment to me. I do feel this is an area where the company can still improve.
Nonetheless, to me it sounds like you may have got some donor hair that wasn't the best quality, the bleaching wasn't done fully through, or there is an issue with the lace that they used (chalkish grey?). At any rate, give them a call, they will know.
Do you have a spare system? I know this is a cost concern, but I personally am having 2 system made simultaneously right now with the idea the 2nd one is my "reserve parachute" should anything come up incorrect on a future order, or I bang my head on something and gash open the lace. I do have one other used spare system right now, but it wouldn't be my first choice to install in an emergency. Thus, the new spare ...
Hopefully HD can fix you up Steve in short order.

Hello Steve.
I am so sorry to hear you had a problem, there is nothing worse than not having a unit to fall back on if something like this happens. Feeling confidant is worth so much, and i believe it makes you feel so much happier in life.
However before you loose faith lets consider the facts. You received your first unit, and in your own words is was the best you have ever had in years. So you know HD offeres a top class product. Sadly the second batch didn't make you feel the same.
The reason for this is because each unit is fully custom hand made and sometimes, you get an odd one that misses the mark slightly, whether its down to a new person at the factory, different hair used, or a million and one reasons.
The tip is get to know your hair technician, talk to her/him over the telephone and explain what you love and what you hate, together you will get it 100%. Remember, it's what they do, and they do it brilliantly, however they need your feedback. Only today the extremely helpful Kathy at HD told me that my new units had arrived and she was very pleased with them. The last ones she was not totally happy and sent them back to be remade in record time. I didnt get to see them ,saving time. This is because she knows what i want and gives an excellent service because she knows as son as she sees them come in.
From now on i know i will get the units i love consistently because of good communication.
I hope you do talk to your technician and explain the problems. Personally i order free style as it gives more options on styling.
Best wishes
Tim

I too experienced a virtual miracle with my first HD unit, which was a "duplication" of a favorite I had purchased from a "salon."
From this, I understood there was now a mold from which all additional units could be created. When my next unit arrived (after I ordered it), it was as if they sent me one made for a different person, the size was different, shape, the whole deal. Since I had no spare, really (HD offered to replace it, but I had to return it, which was a wee bit problematic though). I've had to tough it out. I sent the "good" used one one back, was assured they can indeed copy it and so I ordered two...which arrived not too long ago and appear to be exact duplicates in that they look like the one I sent in, and they both look the same. So far so good.
I won't know for sure until my stylist gets one on me and cuts it in, but they seem right. My point is that don't give up, but give HD a chance and I think they will come through for you as long as you are clear about the problems. I've been wearing these infernal things since I was 22, so about 15 years now. I've gone to the same place for that entire time, now I just order my units from HD rather than the salon (who still gets absurd amounts of $$ to cut them in, but not the 3-4X the cost of the HD unit). During this time, my quality and fit of the units varied widely to the extent that I think there isn't real complete control of the product, only the customer service. I think HD stands up for their products, and if you can cooperate (e.g. send the unaltered unit back) they will fix it. The trick is to get yourself, somehow, in the situation where you can send the bad ones back...that's what I hope to be able to do now since I will (hopefully) have more than one viable unit to use.
Thanks to all of you who have replied with excellent advise. I really appreciate the information. I suppose my biggest problem is the last internet hair system company I dealt with was absolutely horrible. They couldn't get anything right and the problems were exasperating due to the fact that I had no back up system and they were taking forever to ship my hair. After months of fighting with them I ended up taking my case to the CPA and Better Business Bureau and won my case and received a refund. What a nightmare that was.
The only other problem I have is talking to my hair tech. I recently called to have my order changed and left a message for her to call me back, which she never did. I called the next day and told the girl who answered the phone the changes I wanted and hopefully it will be done.
I will communicate with HD any problems I encounter from now on. I know they can make an excellent product and plan to stick with them. I'm due to receive my next order within a couple of weeks so I'll have two new units for back up.
A special thank to Tim for the advise on having extra lace left on the hair system. I really struggle using a liquid adhesive, it gets in the hair and globs up under the lace and looks horrible. I tried taping the frontal area but could see the shine from the tape. I changed my order to have the extra lace and hopefully this remedy the aforementioned problems.
Which is the best liquid adhesive to use? Right now I'm using the High Definition clear. Is there anything that's better?
Once again I wish to thank all of you for all your helpful comments and tips.
I have tried many of the glues, and I prefer the HD bond the best. Walker's Ultra Hold seems to loose it's clarity on my skin much sooner than HD's adhesive. The small tube with small application brush is also a great plus, because there's less of a volume of adhesive to "get thick" over time then you gotta open a new bottle. The small application brush is great for doing my front hairline. And the HD bond seems to be more fluid (runny) which is also an advantage during application.
One big big big thing that helped the appearance of my front hairline, was actually wiping the very front edge of the glue with my finger immediately after adhesive application. I do the application in 4 small sections, (apply for about 2 inches, wipe front edge with finger, move to the next area). This feathers that front edge out, and man, when my HD24 gets seated in the HD bond, it literally becomes "my hair", no kidding ... I love this ruse ...
You also don't need all that wide of a glue line in your front; I apply glue at about a width of 3/4", that's all that you need.
