Hair Direct: "The ultimate lost and found".
Hi tberna!
From my personal experience, conditioners help keep the hair from drying out, but can't revive dry and damaged hair. No matter how good they are, they can't turn dry and wire-looking hair into healthy and shiny.
I would advise you to order a new unit and be really strict with the hair quality in the first place. Don't accept anything less than healthy shiny hair. With the use of good conditioners you can make the unit last for many months, whereas if the hair is dry in the first place, there's not much you can do about it.
On a positive note, I've noticed a huge difference in hair quality on my 2nd and 3rd units from HD. I understand that they have been stricter with their hair suppliers re hair quality.
For the first time in my life, I'm not alone in this...
I will say that it is vital that you start off using the right products for hydrating the hair and conditioning it. Bill has formulated the Hydration Shampoo especially for hair systems.

Because the hair systems do not have the natural sebum coating that your own hair has, it is very important that you keep the hair hydrated. http://www.hairdirect.com/resources/maintenance/hair-softness.aspx
Another important tip, do NOT wash your system every day. This is very hard on the system and will dry it out. Condition daily using a spray on leave in conditioner if possible. http://www.hairdirect.com/store/Conditioner.aspx

I will agree there that the right conditioner is vital, whilest I havent tried the new hydration shampoo i have heard its really good. I use a conditioner that has coconut oil in it. It seems to work so well for me, but i alternate between brands. Im sure sure and maybe someone will know and correct me, but it seems that using the same conditioner day in day out seems to make the hair build up a resistance, maybe this has to do with it coating the hair shafts, and I think thats where the clarifying shampoo comes into play. It helps clean the hair deep down so that the conditioner can penetrate every hair.
Over time many will notice that depite all the care and attention their pieces will fade, ADFhair produce a great product for coloring the hair. Ive tried it on my old pieces and it made alot of difference in the first wash, and the more its used it gets better. I have used a similar product that really stains the hair, but to me the adfhair is the best.
I have a little question for others who like to experiment with their old worn out pieces, has anyone ever soaked their piece in fabric conditioner, I did try it on my old clubs piece and it made it feel really soft, but does anyone think it would have a detrimental effect on the knots, maybe it similar to wool mix that u use to treat woolen jumpers.
Anyone got a thought about that one, id love to hear
If its not HairDirect on top then its just not worth it.
Hey Marky Mark,
I will try to clear up some of the confusion on the life of the hair systems. First of all, the bases are made out of different materials. Some are more durable and some are not so durable. The conventional bases (nylon center with a poly coated perimeter) are the most durable but are not the most natural in appearance. The lace bases are the least durable but the best in appearance. The skin bases come in different thicknesses and the longevitiy would vary depending on the thickness of the skin. The downfall to the skins are that they are non breathable. I will include a link below to explain the differences between the bases. The other factor that helps to determine the life of a unit is the care and maintenance that it gets. Treat them gently and keep them clean and free of build up and you will get the maximum life out of any kind of base. Obviously the conventional bases will hold up longer because they are made of stronger materials. If you go with a lace base, it is most likely that you will need 3 to 4 units per year. The lace bases should really be worn for extended wear (2 to 4 weeks) because removing and cleaning is hard on the fragile lace. Check out the link below for more information on how to choose the right base design for you. If you have any further questions please let us know.
