Hair replacement systems custom-made anddelivered to your door. 100% guaranteed!
Evening all.
I have read with interest several posting about disappointments on bonding, to shave or not to shave etc etc.
I wanted to give you my personal experiences with regard to this in the hope that it will help.
I used to have issues with bonding only lasting a few days, and inching as well as not always feeling 100% fresh. However there are some very simple rules to follow that will DRAMATICALLY increase all the above in a positive way.
First of all, I think its fair to say that preparation is the most important part of wearing hair, as with most things in life, with this in mind your scalp is the canvas you will work with. If your canvas has oils, dead skin, and even hair, the picture you try to paint will be far from perfect.
Your scalp needs to be perfect.
The best way to achieve this is to shave your scalp. Scary at first however second nature after the 3rd or 4th time. Just like on ones face after a shave, splash on some after shave to seal your skin and stop and inching.
Although its not necessary to shave, you can of course clipper or cut, however ask yourself this question, do I want to stick the unit to my head, or do I want it to be part of me. When you shave close (smooth) your system will fit 'flush' with your skin. Its often an issue to try and find the edge of the system when playing with your head.
Another tip that i swear by, which dramatically increases the bond times, and the feeling of security is after the shave, apply a mud mask to your scalp, while youre there do your face too :-).
As much as you clean your scalp you never get all the oils out, the olis that break down the bonding, the mask will remove these. You will find your scalp will be tight and extremely clean. Any bond that is applied to this well prepared scalp will be instant and extremely secure.
Lastly, if you want to finish this all off with a facial scrub this will make your scalp very smooth and even, feeling amazingly fresh, and again gives that bond an incredible head start. (no punt)
If you do follow this i would strongly recommend Adjustabond (sold on this site) as i have found this method of cleaning gives a rock solid bond immediately so you need the AB to give you that few extra seconds to correct any movement needed.
I know every one is different and our bodies do react in various ways, however if you try the above i know you will notice a difference, in hindsight its all common sense really.
I do hope that helps
Best wishes
Tim

Shaving the area where u bond on is the way to go. I usually have a shower after removing my hair and preparing the area. And use my body scrub sponge on my head to clean it with some shower gel.
One thing i use and probably everyone else does is use the plastic base the hair comes on as a template, and make it the same size as the piece.
Put it on the place where ur piece sits then use the clipper on the shaver to mark around the plastic base, tricky at first but you soon get used to it. This will show the area where you need to shave it nice and close to the skin. I even think making the plastic base 1/4" larger would help.
When you are all ready for your hair, use the plastic end of a comb to mark the hairline, this will leave a reddish line and its easier to see where ur front hairline is.
Then when you are ready, put some of the davlyn skin protector on where the tape and adhesive goes, wait , then use ur adjustabond and put the piece on. Wait a lil while, then style.
If its not HairDirect on top then its just not worth it.
Hi Tim. You have most probably mentioned it before, but what method do you use to attach your lacefront and how do you clean it?
Thanks.

Hello,
I use tape (supertape) around the edge and one strip in the middle of the unit, however on the lace front i use the white glue that dries clear (sold on this site) i find that gives the best bond and most importantly the most natural look.
Cleaning is a breeze. No matter what you read, don't use any lace release, or other chemical cleaning, all its really does is dry the hair out. If you are very careful the unit will 'peel off' slowly.
Then use the mirror slide on the dry unit. You will loose NO HAIR and the glue just rolls off. If you spray the underside of the unit with any chemical cleaner it makes the glue go further into the lace and cleaning is very difficult if not impossible without loosing hair. Video of mirror slide here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ6Z6JtQL-8
A great tip is after you take off the unit, put the hair dryer on the lace for a few seconds this will dry the glue a little more any make the mirror slide even more effective.
I can honestly say i have tried every way of attachment and cleaning and i have found this is by far the best way. My units last me twice as long as designed, and always look sharp
Hope that helps

Hi Tim how is that possible to remove the Supertape without anyTape release or 99% I use Supertape on the sides and back and if i do not use 99% there is no way i can pull my lace off of my scalp and what about the hair being pulled through the lace when you pull the tape off the peice? Could you please clarify your proceedure. You also mention the mirror slide but is that necessary for Supertape? [*-)

Hello.
You are absolutely correct, my post was in the main referring to the lace front. Super tape is so strong that you can need a little chemical help to release the tape from the unit. However don't get any on the lace front. If you start from the back and peel forward the lace front will come away very easy.
Personaly i try not to use chemicals as i do feel the unit is never the same afterwards, so i have two units and rotate them leaving the 1st unit over night, or while i am at work ,soaking in warm water with lots of condioner swirled in to the water, this lifts the tape and gives your hair a treat.
Then follow the instructions above, hairdryer the lace etc followed by the mirror slide, you will find this extremely effective.
Another tip, clean the lace front first before you remove the tape etc. Then you can wet the unit with what ever you use to remove the tape. The front will be perfect.
