Oscar Blandi makes this amazing dry shampoo. Is this safe for indian remy hair? Also, do I really have to condition and use the finishing rinse every time I was my hair? It is getting oily after just a few days. Thanks!

Um let me say how much that sucks? I had my daughter and my wonderfully amazing Fiancee heping me....... We got some spots a little too low, and others not quite enough - but it is stuck to my head.. I guess I hope that the tape will pull out those spots that are stuck to the tape - just a small area, but still. It does feel secure, for now anyways? I am a little nervous about brushing it..

I attached and forgot to start at the very front and roll back slowly - I was worried about a time crunch (why, I don't know).. it still turned out OK I guess. My fiancee says it looks good.. I was a little afraid of pulling hair out since I sorta pulled at the hair to adjust it - not good I am sure, but it was stuck - and I had to fix it.. I hope next time I pay attention to my notes.

Why am I still crying?? It's absurd.. I would get *** implants and not care if the world knew - why is my HAIR so different??

I am worried it doesn't look good - worried it is too full, etc.. I am not happy with the curl in it, my hair is pretty gosh darn straight these days, but not quite poker straight.. I figured the light movement would be the way to go, but there is curl in it - not movement. Michael says it blends well and he can't tell what is my real hair and what isn't. MY hair is a bit longer than the unit, which wouldn't be as noticeable if it weren't so curly. He says you can't tell - but I have more of an eye for that sort of thing, I guess. I think I need my next unit just straight or something.

I am also now worried that - what if the base comes a different shape?? I am screwed - my head is shaved THIS way!

I am literally sick to my stomach.. I don't think it looks BAD, not at all.. but I guess I am just not used to seeing myself with hair - and now I have seen myself with this weird shaven head.. like half of it... to top it off, I can't find the satin pillow case. I need to make a hairdresser appointment, though cause I also need the bangs cut a bit shorter fro the look I was going for (which is totally fine, I was worried they would be too short - I would rather them be long)...

Why do I feel so doomed still? I have been so excited about it - and hoped to feel liberated - but I feel more imprisoned in some sense.. maybe that will go away once I go in public.. I hope it will. I feel like I should just tell people or something.. because I feel so at odds about it......

Though i want to say thank you SO SO SO SO much to CurlySue - you are amazing!! And to Babe!! And of course to my awesome HD tech Margaret.

I will get through this somehow I am sure...

Hair Spray

It's been a while since I have asked this question and I am hopeful that someone has found something good on the market. HAIRSPRAY...has anyone come across a good, non-flattening, non-tacky, non-alcohol hairspray? I've used ton's of different kinds, even one's from HD. They seem to all make my hair go flat....

Great Leave In Conditioner

I recently found a leave in conditioner that leaves my hair very soft. It claims to do 10 things: repairs dry damaged hair, adds shine, detangles, controls friz, seals & protects color, prevents split ends, stops hair breakage, creates silkiness, enhances natural color, flat iron spray & thermal protector.

I asked my stylist for a product to protect my hair from flat iron/curling irons. She recommended "It's a 10" and I really like it. It seems to detangle pretty good too, but now my hair is much shorter because I got tired of the tangled mess after my unit was about 3 weeks old. Wish I would have found this product sooner. I purchased it at Regis for about $16.00. It's in a dark blue bottle with a purple spary top. It's thick like a cream, but does spray out.

I just thought I'd let people know what I came across.

I posted a couple of new photos.. I am getting used to it now...

or it is calming down a bit - though I have discovered if i don't dry brush it then it looks better (why I didnt know this before I am not sure, I knew this from when I had very curly hair!! I have lost that curl, but apparently HD found it lol.. though I need to do something bout my growing hair

Hi ladies! My name is Danielle, I am 26 years young and I just began wearing hair a few weeks ago. I joined a club here in my city to "get my toes wet" but now after visiting a few times, I am confident that with the help of my original hairstylist, once the membership is over at the club I can start ordering through HD. With that being said I need some direction please.

So, here is my situation. I want something realistic and NOT SO HOT - OMG!!! Price doesn't really matter, but I need the hair to look as natural as possible. I still have hair almost everywhere other than on the crown, so what would be the best style? I have some hair at the crown but it is extremely thin. Do I need full lace? Or the integration style? I am using liquid adhesive now in the front and I think I will continue with that becasue the idea of tape sounds scary. My hair is long, past my shoulders.

Another thing is, showering is a serious event because of how much time and care everything takes and then I blow dry and flat iron afterwards!!! Does it take everyone an hour? It seems so time consuming.

Any tips you can give me as far as bases, adhesives, and hair care would be greatly appreciated. Thanks~

I got my 1st unit today....I am scared to death

I put it on over my hair, and it looks good. A little more curly than my own hair anymore, though. But that will be fine.. however, I am still petrified.

It is a little different than I expected, I expected the width to go more toward the hairline I think... but it will cover most of what I need. The problem is my hair has fallen out so drastically that my sides are pretty gosh darned thin too... but I think it will work.. I will know more once I dye my hair and wash it and all..

I have to run to the store to get hair dye (I wanted black, but have to dye my hair to match) You can definitely tell there are knots (of course to notice you would have to examine my head closely I am sure) but that might go away on some level once I attach?

Also I do not have knot sealer, do I need this?? Now that I am reading I think I do.. I have waited so long and am so scared, but now I can't even use it until I order the sealer cause I didn't think much about it before *sigh*

I am wonderig if it will be super itchy.. I am worried it won't look good.. I am worried that I have absolutely NO clue about what I am doing to attach it.. I am scared to death, because once I shave my head - it's over. Michael suggested I pin it on and go a few places and see if anyone notices, he said it looks great - even on top of my nearly non existant hair......

I found this site and was wondering if some of the women could comment on having a full lace front and how natural it really looks exposed. I do not have any of my own hair in the front. I would like to be able to have long hair parted on the side but am concerned with how natural it would look.

Allergic Reaction to Adhesives

I have been reading the community posts for awhile - everyone is so upbeat & helpful to one another! So awesome.

I am having problems with any of tape and glue adhesives. The stronger the adhesive, the stronger my reaction. So, I currently use the smallest amount of Safe Grip, which is water based. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, what did you do?

Though I suppose it somewhat doesn't matter, since I have bangs.. but.. my head is swimming with the thoughts at this point. I should have my unit like Tuesday, so that'll be good since I am off on Wednesday..

I am likely going to have to have my awesome fiancee help me.. with everyting, including the shaving.. not sure how much I trust my girls with this.. though, then again, I am not sure how well he will do either - he's afraid to hurt me.

I think I have asked before.. but what do I need to do all of this?

Razor, Scissors.. do I need shaving cream? Really, how do you SEE how far to go back.. I know you draw a line, but my unit goes pretty far back....

Calling All Curly Girls

Hey all!

I thought I'd start a thread for us curly girls! I need some help and I'm sure this thread will help others too.

I'm on a mission for luscious curls. As you can see from my pics, right now I am wearing wavy hair. Though I think it looks nice, it's not really what I want (or who I am) and it's difficult to cover my own curls with the wavy hair. I have to straighten my own growing hair every day to hide my curls, otherwise they stick out from underneath the unit very noticeably. Over the years I've been unsuccessful at attaining the curl I want in a unit (from any hair company). My natural hair has spiral "finger curls." They are about a 3/4" diameter curls with about a 5-6" spring. I love it! However, I have been unsuccessful at getting a natural-looking spiral curl perm. Also, I have found that the processing of a tighter perm causes the unit to get dry and bushy and the curl is never a nice smooth curl but instead a frizzy, stringy wavy thing--regardless of products, conditioners, etc. Though it always look great wet, it usually just ends up as a giant nest shortly after it's completely dry.

Here is a picture of my real hair, next to the hair in an old unit that had an E wave. You can really see the difference. Now I wear an F-G wave which is even less wavy and less processed than the E wave.

So, I'm wondering if any of you curly girls out there can help me out. How are your curls? Does anyone have a perm that would match my natural hair? How do you feel permed units look, generally speaking? Is anyone able to achieve smooth, frizz-free curls? Any way to combat the Brillo look? How do you get your natural smooth luscious curls??

Ideally, I want this look.

Let me know what you all think. I'm hoping that lots of curly girls will chime in. Let us know how you achieve great curls, what your problem areas have been and how you've overcome them.

First of all, I really appreciate all your posts, you help a lot of us with your knowledge and it is so great that you share your information with us.

I just changed from tape in front to SafeGrip. Not working. This adhesive is not holding at all. I wanted to stop using tape in front because I get a "bandage" look and have to wear bangs to conceal it. Now I dread taking this system off because it probably will be a mess trying to remove the adhesive from my scalp! I just do not have the patience for it I am afraid! I could try another adhesive but can't make up my mind about it. I had been having HD apply the front tape because I have a problem with alignment (poor vision) so I might have to go back to that.

When you clean your system do you use shampoo and conditioner or just the Dawn Soap? I was under the impression that in order to have the adhesive/tape stick well just the Dawn Soap should be used.

Before you apply glue/tape do you completely dry your system?

Your curly hair looks beautiful! I have been wearing my hair rather short but now have ordered longer hair because I need the coverage. My growing hair around the sides and back is very thin and I am tired of dealing with it. So my new style will come down to about the middle of my neck and layered somewhat. I am quite up in age so long hair like yours and the other gals that post their pictures would look pretty ridiculous on me!

My new system should hopefully be to me sometime in early November? Maybe mid-November.

I am so excited, but now that it is looming close... I realize I have spent so many hours at different times focusing on everything this site has to offer.. pouring over details of this and that...

But I know NOTHING lol

I don't even know what kind of base I have - Margaret is so awesome and did all this for me - she just rocks. I read the posts bout this base or that, and I think to myself how I know nothing about any of them LOL. I do know I will have a lace front with a poly edge back. I know it is 10 x 8 (my hair is so bad and has done nothing but gotten worse.. it's SO hard to hide right now)..

It seems to me I used to remember the details of removal etc, now I know nothing - I know there is something called a mirror slide, now I dont recall what that is exactly and why a MIRROR helps?! lol.

I ordered a "starter" kit, and have no clue what comes in it - but I am hoping it will be useful.. because I am so darned clueless.

Now, I know the hair wont stay as soft/silky as growing hair due to the lack of oils in it.. I used to use biosilk oil stuff for my hair (since it was curly and frizzy for awhile - natural).. would that work ? I just dont know where to begin..

I need to figure out what products I need to order before my systems get here so I have them ready..

Several HD hair techs replied to her post (Julie, Camille, Margaret, Krystle, Christie, and Lisa), but I don't think she ever replied publically (not sure if she did privately) to anyone. So, I am wondering what her specs are -and/or- who her HD hair tech is. I'm guessing, by process of elimination, that it would have to be one of the following: Melissa, Mary, Cindy, Lauren, Loretta, or Diane. Any info is greatly appreciated.

HEADS OF HAIR NOT RECEIVED

I need to know if anyone had a problem with their hair delivery in August. How did you resolve the problem? Also, are there people still waiting for their October delivery? Both of the hairs delivered in August were bad and I had to send them both back. As of 10/22/09, I haven't received my August or October hairs. I read on the blog that Babe had trouble in August and received a quick resolution. I am sitting here without new hair for 4 months. I have some important functions to attend with rattty old hair!!! Am I the only one?

Flat Iron Tips

Hi Ladies,

I know using a flat iron on a system is a big No No but I decided to try it anyways on an older system which is a light wave. I have the Hai ceramic straightener and tried using it on the system when it was off but I couldn't get it straight how I want it. It was still bumpy and did not look good. Now I'm just wondering if its even possible to straighten a system for a sleek finish or is my straightner just the wrong kind? I had no luck with my friend's Chi either. I would really love to straighten my hair on my system for a change every now and then. Its about 16 inches long. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

I also know I am able to order a straight system. I'm still debating though. My only problem with that is I dont want it to look too fake on me or sitting too flat on my head giving no volume since I was born naturally wavy/curly hair. Like for example, most of the time, I can tell the difference between naturally straight hair on girls and girls who straighten their hair. That's why I think by straightening my wavy system, might look more natural! Although, I might be completely wrong!

Hi Everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I received my current system at the end of January, 2009, and I'm still wearing that system !! That's a miracle in my book. A really good system with the right hair care products makes all the difference in the world. I found the right system, thanks to Hair Direct, and have been using the WEN hair cleansing system, and here I am, 8 months of wear and it still looks good. I've ordered a new system and will retire this one when it arrives, but will definitely still be able to use it as a back up. Just thought I'd pass this on.

Getting Hair cut-in: by HD or local?

I ordered my first unit from HD a couple of months ago and between a mis-communication with the hair tech and my need to get it as quickly as possible, I received it without it having been cut-in. So, I went to the salon where I had been getting my pieces from and my stylist there cut it in for me--at a cost of $50. It is my understanding that HD is supposed to have the unit cut to whatever style you want before sending it to you and that that is part of both the cost and the reason HD is supposed to be more convenient than other options. When I called to re-order for my next unit, I mentioned this to the hair tech and she seemed to hesitate over the whole hair cut issue. I had previously sent several photos of the cut/style I want with my original order. At first the tech said she would only need to know what length in inches I would want the bangs across the forehead to be. When I called for the re-order, she said that if I really wanted HD to do the cut-in, she would need measurements for every section/layer around the entire unit. It's not that complicated of a style-- long layers all around (longest length 14 inches) with some longish, wispy bangs across the forhead (the pictures I provided for the style are of Heather Locklear's hair).

Is it normal for HD to need such measurements? Do most ladies have HD cut their units in or do they wait til they get it, put it on, and then go to someone local?

I'm still waiting on my kit, but I am pretty sure that I want the hair you have in your picture that has the F-G wave. Can you tell me what kind of hair it is in this picture? Do you have them add some long layers into it? sides too? I don't want too much layering or I'm afraid it will get too puffy.

What color is yours? I want the same thing, but have to go with a shorter length since I'm still growing my hair out.

I am also wondering what you ask for in cut when they cut for you.

Rinsing,Conditioning Every Day versus Just Using Leave-In Conditioner

I am looking for the best regime for health of my hair. Styling routine is to blow dry and use flat iron to smooth. I wash my hair every 3rd day, condition, and add leave-in conditioner twice daily, but what about those off days when I don't wash?

To keep hair in the best shape, is it better to:

1) Rinse hair, condition, apply leave-in, blow dry, flat iron

2) Apply leave-in on dry hair and flat iron

Which dries the hair out faster?

Yes, I know, I shouldn't flat iron but to achieve the style I like, it is the only way to accomplish.

Curly Sue question...Please

I would like to try a "topper" and I have a couple question if you don't mind. I know you wear a partial piece and your own bangs, which I do now with a different type of topper.

I've never worn an all lace piece, but I experimented with an old wig I had and it seems like it would be a wonderful solution for me. Here is my specific questions of you:

1) Does there end up being a "part line" between your bangs and the hairpiece? Suggestions for that edge??

2) How big is your piece? I shave a small area now and clip elsewhere with the system I'm using. I'm tempted to just fit the small area behind my bangs 2x3 to see how I like it, but I wonder if covering the top of my head might not be a better overall look. How far down the parietal ridge do you suggest going? My concern would be if it was just on the flat (top) of the head at top that the edges would be more obvious, and wonder if rounding it down a little works better for adhesion or hair blending. I have a lot of hair in back and the sides are ok.

3) Do you use a mono base at all or just use your scalp and the plain lace?

4) Do you use tape or glue?....just edges or entire thing?

I hope all these make sense. I'd greatly appreciate your input, especially on sizing and blending the bangs where it meets the hairpiece.

Any suggestions!

I am a harley rider & ride with a helmit on. My hair always looks horrible when I take it off while riding. I usually wear a bandanna with my helmit to help with the movement of the helmit. Anybody have any suggestions?

Gray Hair - Yes or No?

Hi everyone,

I've been wearing my first full-cap system for several months now (see avatar picture) and I am going to order a new system soon. I'm thinking of adding gray hair to my next full cap hair system as I am getting up there in age and I am thinking it is time to slowly start adding gray to give me a more natural look.

I'd be interested in hearing from HD women here who have ordered gray hair. What percentage of gray did you order? I'm thinking 10% but maybe that is too much too fast. I don't want to look too old!
