    Hi All,

    I'm a first time poster.

I've been wearing a hair system for 6 years without any problems.

All of a sudden i'm experience extreme scalp irritation around the tape line.

haven't changed anything. Same tape I've always used.

I tried a 2 week break, along with a medicated shampoo and psoriases treatment.

However as soon as I reapplied the hair system I had the same problem.

I've tried a different brand of tape - which only helped marginally.

The attached photos are even with using a scalp protector/skin barrier.

    Has anyone else experienced this????

    Any help much appreciated.

    ......

For some reason it won't let me attach the photos, but it's bad- a yellow crusty flaky layer of dead skin all around the tape line.

Hi Steve, So sorry to hear this. Can you use a daily tape and remove every night ? Or try a partial perimeter tape like a piece of tape in front , in back and each sides. Try even a different scalp protector or even a liquid bandage type  as a scalp protector

I will get back to you if I think of anything else to try.

That sounds like the same problem I had, which I was able to clear up with help from a dermatologist. It would be useful to see what it looks like though. You can't attach pics to a post, but you can post them on the photos section and delete them afterwards.

If it looks like the same thing I can give you the name of the medication.

I had the same condition and it is awful. I think it is caused by not rinsing shampoo, conditioner or other hair products thoroughly when washing your hair with the system in place. The way I cured it was to take my system off and apply a generous amount of a good hair conditioner to my dry scalp--let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then I used Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo and a soft brush to clean off the conditioner and loosen the flakes from the scalp (note: the shampoo smells terrible, but it works!). Rinse hair thoroughly and use a conditioner on the ends of hair only--not on top. If you can, only apply a small piece of tape to the front, each side and back of the system so you are not sealing it off with tape and air can circulate a little bit. I found that using the smaller tabs held just fine. Try doing this once or twice a week until it clears up. It only took about two or three treatments for me. Now when I shampoo with my system attached, I always water down the shampoo and I try not to get much on the system. Don't use conditioner on top (only on the ends of hair). Then rinse, rinse, rinse!! Use the Scalp Protector too. I leave my system in place for two weeks with super tape.

Around the tape line implies that no irritation occurs "under" the tape. Exactly where is the irritation? I am inclined to assume that you meant to state that the irritation is under the tape.  Correct?
