  • Question for MichiganBaldy about a flattop

Can you tell me how the back blends into a short clippercut length.  Is it difficult to position the back edge so that their is not a line gap since you don't have longer hair to cover over that transition.  I'm asking because I'd like to try and wear a flattop (used to before if deserted me). Crying Also if I had the crown cut to a short 1/4"  would it look obvious or un-natural.  Seeing skin through the hair wouldn't be a problem since that' the way a flat is on anyone but someon with super thick hair.  I just wouldn't want to see the lace or knots and since I don't currently wear a system I don't know just how undectable the base is when the hair is thin or really short.  Finally my last question would be how well does hairdirect do with creating a hairpattern in the crown or does it end up just looking too uniform.  Thanks

Well the back blends in real good with mine, I used clippers starting at the neckline and then going up, but, when I get to where the hairpiece blends in, I use the angle adaptor on my vacuum haircutter to provide some amount of layering.

At that point, where the hairpiece blends with my own hair, the hair length is about 1/4 inch. I do all the cutting work myself, so I cannot speak for HD ability in this area.

I can say that, when you cut hairpieces and your own hair really short, theres alot of things that you can get away with, things that you cannot get away with when you have a longer hairstyle.

For example, the haircolor and density can be off by alot more, when you have shorter hair. The base itself will no be seen with either longer or shorter hairstyles, but with the shorter ones, you are right the placement must be spot on or its hard to get it to look right. Bleaching of the knots is important too, but again, you should ask HD for their input in this area.

    "......is it on straight?......."

    Thanks MichiganBaldy,

I really appreciate your helpful information.  Hearing how in some ways it can actually work out better with short hair makes sense.  I would think that it might be easier to clean and have less pillow damage as well.  I'm pretty excited to know that I can someday wear a flattop again.  Though I think I'm going to try a nice 3" mop to start with since I've never had hair like that and have always wished I could.  Using a Robocut or Flowbee also makes sense to me for blending since there's no chance of a clippers comb teeth snagging on the lace.  Thanks again.  Geeked [8-|]
