  • DonaldT Before & After Photos

    Hey folks

Our good friend DonaldT paid us a visit a couple months back and allowed us to take before/after pics. He's been so patient with us ever since because it took a bit longer to get these photos up on our site than we had hoped (but you know, good things take time)

We still haven't finished his video but that's next on our list! Until then, enjoy...

Looks good DonaldT, HD is great!  Just a question---do you use special products or just mainstream ones?  And no way are ypu almost 60; hope I look that good when I get there in eight more years!

  • Re: DonaldT Before/After Photos

    NW Tom,

Thank you for the compliment about my look and age, but yes it is true and as i mentioned once before, i sometimes have to show my driver's license to people, not that they don't think i'm younger than 21 but the other way around, they are not sure that i'm the age i say i am, just because of my youthfulness and it is also about attitude, too.

But i tell you, i'm an example of "you are what you eat". I tend to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables in all facets of my meals, one way or the other. No drink, no drug, no smoke. I even put lettuce and tomatoes on a breakfast sandwich.

Now as far as your statement about "special hair products compared to mainstream hair products". I'm so glad that you are being honest about asking such a question.

i truly understand why and if i had straight hair or didn't have the hair texture that i have, i would be curious, too. In the African American community and all of my life, and because my hair texture is "more tight, short, curly and coarsed", i use a "mainstream" gel for African American men called Sporting Waves gel pomade by a company called SoftSheen-Carson products, for decades.

    http://www.walgreens.com/store/catalog/Styling-Products/Sportin'-Waves-Gel-Pomade-with-Wavitrol-III/ID=prod8306&navCount=1&navAction=push-product?V=G&ec=frgl_731754&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=sku308306

It is a "mainstream" heavier hair grease gel for my ethnicity, just like a holding hair spray or a light type gel pomade that a person may used for their own straight hair texture, like yourself.

i have plenty of friends that have straight hair and one particular fellow uses a light gel pomade or something similar to products like Brylcream, because he wants his topical hair to go straight up in the air, sort of speak. But in order for him to do that he als uses a holding hair spray, in order to get the hair style effect that he wants.

For me, with waves and curls, i have to rub on my palms a heavier grease-like gel pomade, use water, a brush and comb, to create my part, and while i'm brushing, i'm enchancing my wavy look and i also may use a "stocking cap" to "hold" the style that i created, for about 15 minutes, and i take the cap off and start brushing again, and combing lightly to get the "effect" that i'm looking for.

See website below for the "stocking cap".

    http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Magic-Stocking-Assorted-Colors/dp/B000NJMRGI

I just want you to know that i'm no different that someone that has straight hair, when it comes to hair products and what i need to use for my particular style and hair texture, but the products are different and for good reason.

For me "mainstream" hair products means the same for people of color such as my self, and my particular mainstream hair products are different than someone else simply because there are so many different and diverse ethnic groups that do not and can not use the same hair products, which is understandable and it makes perfect sense, of course, thus the variety of hair products in the beauty and barber supply industry.

So i'm thankful that hair manufacturers thought about all of these differences, because i can not use a product such as Brylcream or other products that would not be strong enough to hold my style in place.

    Thanks for asking...

    Jeff,

yes, i just replied to another post on this same subject, and it has a lot to do with genetics, environment, eating habits, not using chemicals, such as drugs or alcohol or smoking, and eating plenty of fruits and vetegables.

Now, i'm not a saint, because i'm far from that! (lol) But over the last 20 years i try to treat my body like a "temple" now a days and to try to love myself and that alone with go a long way in feeling self-confident, proud, self-assured, and humbling at the same time.

i do what i need to do for myself because i'm now getting mail from the social security administration about my retirement plans and by age 62 i can start drawing SS!!

But to tell you the truth, i will work until i drop, period. Being a productive member of society and keeping active in whatever i do, is more important than sitting home in a "rocking chair" or fishing or play golf all day. One can get tired of that, too!!

Reality is that social security nor my private retirement plan will ever match my current or future working salary in order to continue my financial lifestyle that i live today.

So i may be eligible in a few years, thanks but no thanks to SS!!

    CurlySue,

You dumbfounded, so am i even! (lol) i can't believe that it's me showing the world my bald spot and the reality of it all, after all these years of "covering up" my topical part with so many different makeup solutions.

Now for the first time, i'm "letting my hair down" and showing the Internet world that HD ROCKS for me, too!

    DonaldT,

Thank you so much for doing you pics and video (can't wait)!.  It is truly amazing....you look mahvelous dahling :).

Cannot wait to get rid of the nasty couvre, hair fibers and extensions.  You are an inspiration to men and women alike!!!

Yeah, Donald, I can see where your healthy lifestyle has paid off for you. I'm only a few days younger than you, and I could donate my body to science fiction.  Someone else once told me to treat my body like a temple and I thought they meant Shirley so that really messed me up. Well, I must go now. My wife has my deep fried dinner ready for me.  Ooooh, are those chest pains?  Well, at least my hair looks great!Wink

    Jeff,

As usual, you are a ball of laughs. Just great!!

Now don't get me wrong, i LOVE me some deep fried chicken, for instance! I have a deep fryer just for that purpose. So what ever i eat, it is all in moderation. That is the key, anyway.

Enjoy your meal, and like you said, the hair looks great, so what the heck!!

Fried chicken he says!  My wife deep fries coconut custard pie. I cut myself yesterday and gravy came out. Oh, excuse me, I'm supposed to be eating my dinner now.PizzaCakeCoffee  No time for a monologue.

    Mustangwoman,

I love the way you put "you look mahvelous dahling!" Sound like something Bette Davis would have said! That was just too precious and i love it! Thanks

Now about the courve, hair fibers and etc., i hear you well. i feel like i'm waiting with you, too. I understand all too well. Back in march 2009 when i had my measurements at HD and had to wait and in the mean time i was using courve, hair fibers, hair spray, propecia pills, and other "hair illusions" products, believe me, i'm with you emotionally.

The freedom that comes with wearing my HD24 full lace system is just not enough words to explain the joy of being able to style my topical hair once again and let's not talk about being able to go swimming again and go UNDER water and my hair is still there, not like losing the hair fibers.

i was just on the phone with one of my sisters this evening and all of my sisters are just so happy for me because they know what i have done to try to keep from showing my baldness all these years.

Now i can style again and comb in my famous "part" just like i did when i was in my 20s and 30s. What a relief i have now. As i mentioned to someone today, this unit may not be my attached hair, but it is MINE, bought and paid for! (lol)

Keep us posted when your moment comes, because it is going to be your official "hair birthday" just like i have now for myself, which is May 15 2009 for me.
