Allergic Reaction to Adhesives

    Hello everyone,

I have been reading the community posts for awhile - everyone is so upbeat & helpful to one another!  So awesome.

I am having problems with any of tape and glue adhesives.  The stronger the adhesive, the stronger my reaction.  So, I currently use the smallest amount of Safe Grip, which is water based.  Does anyone else have this issue?  If so, what did you do?

     Thanks,

    Chris

    TXgirl,

I'm so sorry you are having that reaction...it makes wearing hair pretty tough I would think! I haven't had the same problem, but I can recommend that you continue monitoring your reactions. It obviously won't be easy for you to get a long bond, but many people wear daily or 2-3 days and have no problems.

For a short term bond that may not give you allergy problems, I would try Got2BGlued. It is really a very strong hair gel that is white (but dries clear). It comes in a yellow bottle and it holds your hair in a spike like no business! But...for us wearers, it can also be used to bond your lace to your head for a short term bond. It is water resistant, but NOT waterproof - so it doesn't hold up well to swimming or showers. The up side is that it cleans up like a dream and you only need mere moments to attach your hair since it dries pretty quickly!

Let us know how it works if you decide to try it!

    Babe

Not born with hair, but I've got
    the intelligence to find it,
the money to pay for it,
the patience to "stick" it on just right,
the will to make it work,
the confidence to wear it boldly
and the smile to wear under it!

I use the Got2Bglued to cement my bio hair down before using daily wear tape to secure my topper. The glue has to dry first before the tape will stick. I'd be interested to know how it works as an adhesive on its own - would you need to get the hair wet to remove it, and would it be messy?

The Got2Bglued doesn't irritate my scalp - maybe it could be used as a scalp protector if other scalp protection products are ineffective.

Smile Thanks - I'll try Got2BGlued and let you know how it works for me!

    Cool Hi,

I bought Got2BGlued and applied it to my scalp.  Then I applied Sure Grip on top.  Unfortunately, the Got2BGlued gave me a runny nose (I am sensitive!).  So, I used my own hair gel instead.  I applied a layer to my scalp, then the Sure Grip on top.  It helped!  As the day wears on, I start to get a reaction, but not as bad as before.  I am going to try a scalp protector to see how it does with my allergies.  I am concerned that I can only find scalp protectors that are flammable.  Has anyone found one that is not flammable?

Thanks for your help & advice,

    Chris

Maybe you could try one of the liquid bandage products, available at most drug stores, as a scalp protector. I know most contain some rubbing alcohol, but I don't think they're flammable. That's so difficult for you, being sensitive to  a lot of products!
