Hair replacement systems custom-made anddelivered to your door. 100% guaranteed!
I have to say how awesome Margaret is =)
My new system should hopefully be to me sometime in early November? Maybe mid-November.
I am so excited, but now that it is looming close... I realize I have spent so many hours at different times focusing on everything this site has to offer.. pouring over details of this and that...
But I know NOTHING lol
I don't even know what kind of base I have - Margaret is so awesome and did all this for me - she just rocks. I read the posts bout this base or that, and I think to myself how I know nothing about any of them LOL. I do know I will have a lace front with a poly edge back. I know it is 10 x 8 (my hair is so bad and has done nothing but gotten worse.. it's SO hard to hide right now)..
It seems to me I used to remember the details of removal etc, now I know nothing - I know there is something called a mirror slide, now I dont recall what that is exactly and why a MIRROR helps?! lol.
I ordered a "starter" kit, and have no clue what comes in it - but I am hoping it will be useful.. because I am so darned clueless.
Now, I know the hair wont stay as soft/silky as growing hair due to the lack of oils in it.. I used to use biosilk oil stuff for my hair (since it was curly and frizzy for awhile - natural).. would that work ? I just dont know where to begin..
I need to figure out what products I need to order before my systems get here so I have them ready..
Help?
One day at a time..
Hi Pandorah,
I can't help you with your questions yet, as I have yet to place an order...but, I know what you mean. I had a huge folder with notes & had finally "understood" everything...and, when I took a break from reading the website for a few months....everything is lost in my brain. I do want to BEG you, though, to PLEASE take and post pictures of your new system when you receive it. I am on the verge of ordering, but now that it has become a reality for me, I want to see more women with their systems. Wish you the best of luck (not really luck)...how about success. I am sure you'll be thrilled....haven't heard or read of anyone who isn't.
Take Care!
Sleeplesshouse
Hi Pandorah!
I'm looking forward to seeing your new system as well. Below are some basic steps. For all products (base cleaning, attachment and hair products) you will have to experiment. The general rule of thumb for hair products is to avoid the bad alcohols. Biosilk should be fine--I've read on here that others use it. I tend to like products with silk protein in them. Make sure you get a good alcohol-free leave-in conditioner to use daily to keep the hair nourished and soft.
The hair products I use right now are (keep in mind I have very curly hair right now):Nearly Natural Silk Protein Shampoo and ConditionerNearly Natural Moisture MistNearly Natural Frizz ControlNearly Natural Softening Solution after each shampooCurly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper
I also sometimes use KMS Silksheen Shampoo and Conditioner, but not their leave-in conditioner because it has too much alcohol for me. I also am using up old bottles of Pureology Nanoworks. I would not spend the money to purchase that product again as I cannot tell the difference between it and the Nearly Natural stuff and it costs significantly more. The KMS and Pureology can be purchased at your local beauty supply store though.
I remove my unit once ever week. I wash it when it is off my head and then once again during the week. I wet and condition every day in the shower and apply the other products when it is wet after showering.
Most of us clean our scalps with the following type of regimen (or similar):Clean the scalp and remove all adhesive with a citrus solvent Shave down to the skin Scrub at least 2 times with an exfoliating glove and dish soap Apply scalp protector Most people clean the base of the unit with the following type of regimen (or similar):Use 91% alcohol (Lace Release) to remove tape Use mirror slide/CD slide/microfiber towel to remove glue from base (you can search for these methods in the forum) Spray base with citrus solvent or soak the base in solvent Thoroughly clean the base with dish soap to cut the oils from the solvent Rinse thoroughly with the underside of the unit facing UP towards the water Wash/condition the hair Apply tape if you are using tape To bond: Follow the directions for the adhesive you are using (1-2 coats etc) Spray Adjust-A-Bond on the tape/glue Position unit on head, press into place. Sometimes it takes a half hour or so for the bond to cure. Here is a list of the most popular products, all available in the HD store. These are the basic steps but many people have their own variation. If you are not following all of these basic steps you will not get a good bond. If you follow the steps and still don't get a good bond you could have a body chemistry issue at which time you would need to follow the same cleaning protocol but start experimenting with different adhesives.
This is a general overview and are just my personal recommendations. Other people will have other suggestions for you. Remain open-minded and know that you will have to experiment a little.

Hi Pandorah and Sleeplesshouse,
Curly Sue is right on with all her advise and details. Thank you Curly Sue. You are an assett to HD and the family.I know it can all be overwhelming with all the information on the site. There is sooooo much to take in so take it step by step. I would direct you to the LEARN TAB as well as the PHOTO TAB for the videos. I know sometimes it is easier to retain something if you can view it visually - like the videos. If you are still feeling overwhelmed, pick up the phone and call, we will walk you through things step by step.
