I was wondering what brands do hair wearers use on their systems? Please rate your favourite one in this post and stress whether some are really bad .

We all know that Sulphate Free shampoos are the best to use . In usa you can find them everywhere. Its pretty hard picking chemical free shampoo here in UK unless ordered over the net. Any suggestions?

I used a brand called Tigi from Dallas. Amazing intense shine and looked really well. Obviously without the sulphate its les foamy but you can feel your system being sliky and more streamlined.

Currently im using l'oreal sulphate free shampoo and conditioner.. I wouls say Tigi is my favourite

Well I dont know where to get it from in the Uk, but it was the shampoo that said color savvy. The conditioner is called serious conditioner. Its a great product. What shampoo and conditioner have you used to make it shiny and flawless?

i think ph5 shampoos that are sulfate free are best, and the shampoos and conditioners made for color-treated hair. i prefer 'organic or vegan' simply because of the ingredients.

stay away from commercial store bought products. even though they all work, some are harsh and need to be diluted

many shampoos will work good for one hairpiece then the next hairpiece not so good. i think its not so much shampoos but the manufacturing and inconsistency of hair. too many variables from quality of hair to over or under processing of it to who might be tying the knots.

    Hey aerorail.

    Thanks for your contribution

do u have the name of a specific brand. Is ph5 a brand? I agree sulphate free organic are the best things to use.

For me its the Boots range of Cocunt & Almond, or Honey & Jojoba shampoo and conditioner. Always leaves my system soft and shiny, and it smells pretty good too. Plus, it's only £1.35 per bottle!

    THG ;-)

    ph is not a brand

The concentration of hydrogen ions is commonly expressed in terms of the pH scale or how acid or alkaline something is.

hair is about ph4.5-5.5 so look for a shampoo with that ph. it's hard to find and you usually have to contact the manufacturer for the info. or if you have ph test strips you can test yourself. most professional products in salons are low ph and can be found on-line through google. just takes time to search.

any shampoo higher than ph5 is going to fade color as well as make hair brittle. i tried one organic shampoo claimed to be made for color treated hair and found it was ph9. not good in my opinion. correct me if i am wrong.

many claim coconut oil hair products work really well.

i will trying a brand called 'enjoy' coming in a couple days and will get back on how it works.

i am also trying 'it's a 10' i just received and the spray-on leave-in conditioner is the best i have tried in 20 years.

another no-no is using conditioner that contains lanolin. it will loosen knots.

private me if you have more questions

    Aerorail thanks for the info

Everything you said makes sense perfectly. I know all about ph factors. It just sounded like u were talking about a brand which is why i asked the question.

I always get salon rated products , always use sulphate free shampoo. before i used to color my system every mnth now with sulphate free shampoo its every four months or even 5 mnths. for example my old system which i wore for 8 mnths i only colored twice.

I ould def agree with coconut oil shampoo and conditioners. When i went to india backpacking i was amazed by peoples hair there. just the right texture color length and body. everyone there uses coconut oil . they tend to apply it all over the hair and sleep overnight with it then wash it in the morning.

keep us updatd with the enjoy product. i dont use products with lanoline and including mouisterisers . its bad for you i guess. where dd u get the its a 10 product?

9 is high. Baking soda has a pH of about 9. People use baking soda and ammonia to detangle hair because it opens it up, allowing any remaining cuticle to unlock from the surrounding hair. Might be ok every once in awhile (actually if you use the right products you should never really have to use it) but any time you swell the hair shaft you are probably going to lose some color.

As for a shampoo over a pH of 5 fading the hair and making it brittle, that's not going to happen if the shampoo has the right ingredients. In the RemySoft line, the Moisturizing Shampoo is 5-6 on the pH scale, and it is formulated specifically for processed hair and the unique challenges it presents. I have been using the 3-Step system exclusively on my last three units, and for the first time in 4 years of wearing I have virtually zero shedding and minimal fading.

Part of this is due to the fact that I use the Blue Max Protective Sealer religiously, which serves as sort of a "cuticle replacement", but the fact remains that it is imperative to use the right products from shampoo all the way to styling.

Whatever shampoo you use should leave the hair tangle free and feeling soft even during the washing process. Some of the drug store bought sulfate free shampoos I have tried in the past absolutely wreck the hair. It feels like wet cardboard during washing. Not good. It should stay smooth and silky, even before conditioning.

One more thing that I can't stress enough is the importance of using cool water to wash and condition whenever possible. I rarely wash my unit in the shower, but when I do I turn the water down as cool as I can stand it. Even then, the hair opens up moreso than when I wash it in the sink. It doesn't feel the same as it does when I wash with room temperature water in the sink. I can always tell when I'm not doing the hair any favors when washing based upon how it feels during the process.

You aren't going to see the pH level listed on most products, not due to the fact that anyone wants to keep that information from you, but due to the fact that it can vary slightly from one batch to the next.

I inquired about this with the chemists that developed the RemySoft line and was told that they could give me an exact number for the current batch but that it would be a bit different each time.

Keep in mind that pH level is only one factor that can potentially effect the way a product performs. The most important thing is that the combination of ingredients works together to achieve the desired result.
