Gav,
I feel for you. That would be very embarrassing and humiliating. What are you going to do? I hope you don't give up on getting what you need to feel good about yourself. I had a weird experience too...I did receive my kit at work and also returned it from there. There was no embarrassing paperwork and I wasn't exposed. However when I spoke to my tech she told me there was no hair in my kit. I didn't know what she meant and finally after a back and forth realized she was saying there was no hair whatsoever in my return kit. I had excrutiating images of having the sample hair drop out of the box in the parking lot or worse someone at work removing it and making a joke of it and me. As it turns out the HD shipping department removed it to use in another kit due to ship out and my tech wasn't aware of it. So I do understand the panic and feelings of humiliation you may have gone through although I didn't have anyone harrassing me or laughing at me. I am very sorry this happened. I hope you are able to find the strength of charachter to understand your co-workers are really insecure idiots who desperately need to feel better about themselves. Hold your head high you have nothing to be ashamed of.
sorry gav
i did not know you were in canada, being a shipping clerk earlter in my life, the document's are taken out to be reviewed, and just stuffed back in the pouch to move the package's along,

Quoted from Gav: "I pray you'll NEVER have to go through the embarrasment and SHOCK that I did yesterday... but if you DO... I hope there's a friend much more careing and sympathetic to be there for you, when you need them the most - than you were for me. I also hope that if you ever see someone injured - lets say by getting hit by a BUS (which is exactly how I felt yesterday) that instead of staring down at them and telling them how they shouldn't have been standing in front of it in the first place, you might give them a blanket and some kind words of comfort."
Gav, My first inclination was to get really snarky and tell you to grow up. When I saw it on paper, I thought better of it. It is clear that you have suffered a major psychological bruise and if I was up in the Great White North, I'd take you out for a beer or a double shot of Crown Royal (or both )and have a heart-to-heart with you. That's not possible, so I'll try to do it here.
First, I have had my wig pulled off in a public setting and I wrote about it here. Yes, I did go on the attack, but I only went after the woman who pulled the wig off my head and only her. I would much rather have had to deal with a fitting kit coming to my office (I understand you own the company - is this correct?) than having my wig removed in public in the manner that it happened.
Second, you can either let your co-workers/employees hold you and your hair loss hostage, or you can take control. It's your choice. They can only make you feel as bad as you let them make you feel. Continuing as you are now is a form of granting them a power they don't deserve.
Third, I've been putting people who have been hit by buses back together for a lot of years and I never told a single one of them "too bad, pal". Why? Because they didn't put themselves in that position by purposely standing in front of an oncoming bus.
Bottom line, my friend: Here is what worked for me and I hope it helps you: Take your power back. Kick yourself in the tush because you had the stuff sent to your office instead of your home. Understand that human nature being what it is, if you had a full head of natural hair you'd have probably reacted exactly the same way as your co-workers/employees. Realize, however, that you are the more compassionate, bigger person because of your life experience. Finally, take heart - what goes around, comes around. They WILL get theirs and it will be 1000 times worse and then some - guaranteed.
Hairlady™Beauty is not about what's ON your head, but what's IN it.Semper hair
I guess it's just me but the people I work with know I wear a hairpiece.I told the biggest blabbermouth in the company and NEW he would spill the beans for me ( notice I said HE not a she , LOL ) I got a few smiles and looks for about a week then it just died down. Actually most of my friends and family said it looks great and a few said they'd never seen me without a hat anyway and just assumed there was hair under there and asked why I wore a hat when I looked much younger without one. It's really nice to have hair but if it doesnt work out for me I have no quams with just going back to a hat but thats just me.

Breath, I am entirely on your side. It is a relief to know this isn't completely HD's fault. I hope HD is able to come up with a solution to this kind of thing in the future. I was very happy to see you back on the message board today. I had hoped to hear how it went for you at work today. It must have been tough, just remember they are jerks. I really believe that this life is a learning process for each of us. I don't want to sound like a religous freak, but the experiences we have are intended to help us grow. The humilations we experience about the way we perceive ourselves to look and the reactions of the people around us are all part of it. Hang in there. Thank god you are you. ( Oh crap that sounds corney) Hang in there.
Hair Direct: "The ultimate lost and found".
What happenned to Pilot was a series of unfortunate events: the invoice pulled out for postal inpection and being put back in the wrong way, and then his employees seeing it. (Can't you fire them??? Just joking, tell them you'll remove $10 off their salary every time sb mentions this incident again!!!)
Again, I took another look at the invoice that came on the outside of my fitting kit package (I live in Europe and this customs control thing is a real pain!!!). There was nothing to suggest that the company sending the package is selling hair, and under "description of package" only said "fitting kit". If Pilot's invoice had something else written on it, explaining the exact contents of the package, maybe HD should get a bit "creative" eg use "fitting kit" instead of "hair measuring kit" that was written on Pilot's invoice etc.
Pilot, you are not alone in this. I remember some years ago I had ordered a hairpiece from another company that was using regular mail for shipping. (HD sends packages door-to-door, another thing I like). In my country, this means getting a notice in the mailbox, and having to go to the local post office to claim the package. Imagine my horror when I was told that, in order to get the package, I would have to go through the customs office first. And yes, the jerk opened the box, took the hairpiece out in front of his collegues and started asking what and why. I wanted to start crying on the spot, leave the hairpiece in his hands and get the hell out of there. This is a memory I had completely blocked out of my mind till I read Gavin's story.
Right now, I'm at a point in my life that I don't give a **** about what everyone else thinks of my hair. Been teased and made fun of because of it since I was 5. Pilot, these people are no better than you, a full set of hair doesn't make a person descent. If people fight you, you fight back.
For the first time in my life, I'm not alone in this...
I hope things have settled down at work and that you are not still feeling like a laughing stock. I wish things had not fallen out the way they did for you. I just hope you are not going to let people dictate whether or not you are going to wear a hair system. I understand if you choose not to interact here but don't give up on feeling good about yourself.
