    Donald,

First off, I want to comment that you look really darn good for 59. You must take really good care of yourself.

I just wanted to add a few things that might be of help to you. Either satin or silk pillow cases work fine: http://www.hairdirect.com/community/forums/thread/17545.aspx

Here's a pretty good article on the differences though if you are interested: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=226745&ca=Arts+and+Crafts

I think that for most people the pillowcases are great. I now use satin sheets and pillowcases because I have found that it helps me with dry skin issues I had in the past. The thing is that sometimes what works for the majority of people won't work for me. I have incredibly sensitive skin and find myself allergic to many products. It stinks when everyone is saying how well something works for them, I order the product, and then find that I'm not one of the majority that the product works on.

When it comes down to it, it's helpful to read the advice of others but I realize that there's a good chance it won't work for me. Have you experimented with different pillow case materials? I believe that this is the discussion where several people stated that they prefered not to use silk or satin: http://www.hairdirect.com/community/forums/thread/9575.aspx

    Mustangwoman,

Thanks so much. I immediately went to the site and I'm sold on the benefits of silk pillowcases. But the site looks like it is based in the United Kingdom, since their prices are in British pounds, i believe. At least the price is not in U.S. dollars, i know. but i will search google.com to find silk pillow cases in the U.S., not a problem.

     thanks again for your research.

By the way, i do have SATIN pillow cases but they are made of polyester man-made material and i'm thinking that they are not healthy for my own natural hair, simply because it looks like my sides are thinning for some reason.

I rather invest in the silk ones, so thanks.

    Angie0075,

Thanks for your compliment about my facial look compared to my age. All i can say is that i have my father's genes! Really! i have been told that genetics play a role, too. I remembered when my father turned 60 when i was younger, i couldn't believe his youthful look. But i also don't drink, drunk or smoke, either. Those 3 items alone can take away decades to one's youthful appearance and i love fruits and vegetables. But i'm not no perfect individual, i love fried foods and basically eat what i want, but in moderation.

Back to the silk or satin pillow cases. i explored the sites that you had and as usual, so many folks had their positives and negatives towards silk and satin, depending your their own sensitivity to those materials, or not noticing any differences, etc.

i've noticed that some people with satin or silk cases have full caps, too. So this may be a benefit for everyone that has full caps and i can understand that, but i still have natural hair on my sides and back.

I presently have been using SATIN pillow cases since my first unit from may 2009. but i'm noticing my sides (i sleep on my left side since i'm left-handed) and i noticed since i have been sleeping on these satin pillow cases, my left side of my natural hair is looking and feeling more thinner these days.

So i'm worried about that, but i also stopped taking my propecia hair growth pills after 10 plus years, since i have my HD unit. But because of my fear, i've started back using Propecia. One of the problems of when one stops Propecia or Rogaine, you can lose the hair that you have been trying to keep for so many years.

Anyway, i do noticed when i use my satin cases, i wake up in the morning and my partial topical unit and my sides and back are still in place when i went to bed.

So satin may keep ones hair in place, but i'm concerned about my natural sides and back to be able to "breath" as i read on another post on this board.

This is getting to be too much information to make a rational decision. i will just have to make up my mind what is more important, to allow my natural hair to be able to breath or keep my partial topical unit from being "pulled". But my unit is so short that CurlySue also said that satin cases are not necessarily advantageous for my length of hair.

    what a decision to make!!

    hi donald,

i use satin ..they arent dear at all..and the slippyness of them works magic in terms of keeping the knotts in place

    Hi Jonnyboy.

I hope you are well, just picking up on the moisture  issue you didnt think was true. Maybe i should explain a little more.

You are right Silk will not put back moisture into the hair, wow that would be a cleaver pillow case, however what it does do, or rather what it doesn't do, is draw moisture out of the hair. Cotton absorbs moisture, think about a cotton bath towel, you use that to dry yourself after a shower, if it was a  pure silk towel it would just move the water around and you would never get dry!

So when we say silk is good to keep your hair moisture levels up, its because it doesn't act like a sponge in the night slowly sucking out moisture night after night. Silk doesn't do that

Hope that clarifies the benifts of silk

    Best wishes

    Tim
