Thanks for the info. I was wondering if this is really Remy hair because it acts just like my old non-Remy pieces. Definitely mattes when I wash it. This one is pretty new so it's not "nesting" yet but I know what you mean from my non-Remy pieces. Non-remy clumps in sections. No matter how many times you comb it, it still tangles. I guess maybe this isn't Remy then. I remember reading in some old posts that HD was thinking about discontinuing Remy hair because the suppliers are unreliable and that they often try to ship non-Remy as Remy. Regardless, it's STILL better than my last company!
By the way, I use that Sooth-e stuff too and it's really nice. A little goes a long way. Also, adding curl with a perm negates the Remy because it is actually processing the hair with the perm, which basically rots the hair. That's how all perms work. Still I like to start out with Remy then perm because it's still LESS processing.
Congratulations on your wedding! I was just thinking how awful it is that you have to worry about your hair (I went through that...pre-hair wearing days...lots of creative covering) and how stressful it is but then I realized that ALL women worry about their hair on their wedding day, so despite the snafu, it's quite normal to worry about your hair for your wedding! Don't worry, HD will hook you up!
All the best, Sue

Wow, thats pretty bad, I didn't read those posts about shipping non remy as remy. they wouldn't do that if THEY had to wear a non remy piece. And that makes the contact companies look bad. how is HD supposed to know its not the right hair? its hard to tell at first glance.
you'd think that it would almost be easier to have remy, i mean, they would get to skip the whole acid bath and processing phase.
you're right, HD is better than all the other companies.
Thanks! thats pretty much the only thing Ive been worrying about, everything else is coming together really nicely. Its just that I I dont like being the center of attention in front of a ton of people, and it would be even worse with bad hair. and pictures, ew. a constant reminder of it. HAHAHA.
I was the same way! I hated being the center of attention. I didn't even want the wedding. It felt so impersonal! I would have rather eloped.
You're such a pretty girl, you'll look beautiful! Don't worry so much about it. Most people don't notice most of the stuff we fuss about with ourselves. Just enjoy yourself.
I'll have to talk to my HD rep about my hair. I honestly didn't notice the difference between processed and Remy hair. Maybe because it's not Remy! They spend the time processing it because it's too hard to keep all those billions of donor strands going the same way. They do that to prevent hair matting believe it or not. I'm sure you know that. I guess there's no easy way for them to do quality control on the Remy units.
Here's Bill's blog post on Remy for your reference: http://www.hairdirect.com/community/blogs/bills_blog/archive/2008/01/14/remy-hair-true-or-false.aspx
He does say that they only supply Remy hair in a Remy base which I do not think I have, nor did HD ever say I needed one for Remy hair. What kind of base do you have? I'm still happy with HD. Compared to the major scheisters and rip-offs of other companies, they are AWESOME! They also have a great guarantee so you should still have your new unit remade for free after you get the other one filled in for your wedding.
Trishie,
I've had that happen to me before also. You may be in luck...my suggestion (and it has ALWAYS worked for me) is to do the bleach / ammonia bath on your new unit. I had one new unit that I arrived like this and I did the bleach/ammonia bath, then wore it for a week and had to do it again. After the second bath, it was back to the wonderful, soft hair we love!
It may not be a permanent fix for your hair, but at least it will work until you get the new hair added or in case you don't get it back in time. If you follow the instructions to the letter, using REALLY hot water and I also use a wire brush on it while it's in the bleach to comb through it. I follow the same steps during the ammonia and after I rinse it, I let it air dry. Let me know if this works for you, I've found it to be a lifesaver when the "bird's nest syndrome" starts with those type of units...know what I mean???
Good luck and congratulations!!!
Babe
Not born with hair, but I've gotthe intelligence to find it, the job to pay for it, the patience to "stick" it on just right, the will to make it work, the confidence to wear it boldlyand the smile to wear under it!
Babe!
I read your post about Axis versus the bleach/ammonia bath...do you still recommend it? I tried it yesterday with no improvement but I didn't use Axis shampoo/cond, I used the Nearly Natural products. I am scared to death to do the bleach/ammonia thing for fear of ruining my unit (and I have no good ventilated place to do it) and had this done in the past when I used to go to the salon. I had to have it done every month and it seriously diminished the life of the unit considerably. The result didn't seem to hold. Thoughts?
Sue
Sue,
Yes, I still recommend the Axis! Definitely...I don't think the Axis will replace the bleach/ammonia bath in every circumstance. Perhaps if you had someone else completing the steps with your old units, they didn't follow the steps as carefully as you would? I know that I am more protective of my hair than anyone else is...ha ha...for good reason!
If the Axis isn't having an effect, I would try using different shampoos in combination with the Axis and I would use the Axis on a regular basis to see if your results improve. If not, then I would move on to the next step and try the bleach/ammonia.
I do mine in the laundry room sink. I don't leave any doors or windows open, but I'm careful not to inhale the ammonioa fumes. It's all over in minutes and the result (for me) is great. I do recommend that after you finish the bath, you spray your lace with TDI knot sealer, at least two light coats. This really helps with any shedding from the knots being loosened by the bleach and ammonia. Just be certain to rinse the unit in cold water between the bleach and the ammonia and to get it all out. Then, when you are finished, let it air dry.
Hope this is of some help to you,
No problem. If you hit a snag, you know where to go for help...it isn't always instantaneous, but most of us try to get to you asap!
Just follow the directions as closely as possible! You'll do fine!
babe,
are you still wearing remy units? did you order remy and not get it too?
Im afraid to do that bleach ammonia thing. I sent my other unit back in to add hair to the front. so if for some reason I mess it up, then I dont really have anything else. I dont know if I want to chance ruining it so close to my wedding date!
Curlysue,
aww, thanks. yeah, im trying to get over the nervousness of being the center of attention.
i see what you're sayingabout remy, but processed hair mattes anyways! and it doesn't look real when it does that.
A remy base is made to look like skin, and is thicker. and not comfortable. but if thats what I absolutely have to do to get remy hair, I will.
I still order the remy hair on the lace base...I bet you can too. No worries. You won't ruin your unit if you follow the directions. The worst that can happen is that the color lightens just slightly if you leave it in the bleach over two minutes....heck, you could even do a 30 second swish and brush for each step and I bet it works wonders!
The very first unit I ordered was not remy hair. I immediately knew from the texture/feel. Since then, I have ordered all remy hair and won't order anything else. On occasion, there is a spot that I know isn't remy in my unit...maybe the ventilator accidently put the hairs in upside down in that spot...who knows what happened, but I just use the bleach/ammonia trick and the "bird's nest" stops immediately.
I'm sure that it will all work out for you! You are going to be a beautiful bride! Can't wait to see the pictures!
Sweet dreams on your satin pillowcase,
I really wish I had some way to compare Remy and non-Remy side by side. I'm sure my old units from my other salons were not Remy by the way they tangled but they were in an injected skin base which is no where as nice as the lace. This particular one is my second from HD. The first curly one I sent back because it turned into a rat's nest. Even though it was supposed to be Remy, as soon as you perm it is has now been processed which breaks down the hair, shortening the life of it. I'm now trying a non-curly naturally wavy piece that is supposed to be Remy. It was GORGEOUS for 6 weeks with no shedding or tangling. Now it is starting to feel dryer and is starting to tangle a bit. It's shedding more, but not from the knot but because it is breaking off in various spots along the lengths of the hairs because it is getting so dry. It's not really bad yet, but going down hill fast. Has definitely lost its luster. So, I'll maybe try the bleach/ammon when I get my replacement piece in so I have something to wear in case it goes bad! I'm no longer hopeful that the new curly unit will be much better than the last. Not because of HD but after doing this for 4 years I have found that matching my curl is one of the hardest parts. It's only been right once and then the perm wears out anyway and it no longer matches. Re-perming never produces the same results. So, I have been straightening my own beautiful corkscrew curls, what's left of them, and hiding them under this straight/slightly wavy piece. Everyone loves it but I am CURLY SUE, not Straight-to-Wavy Sue! Ha ha! Oh well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Whatever it takes.
Hi Curly Sue:
You can tell remy hair because it is shinier and feels softer. Also, I agree with Trishie, when you wash the unit you can tell. It shouldn't mat as much if it is remy hair. Good luck with your system.
HD Hair Tech
Hi Kathy-
If that is the case then this is not Remy. It definitely mattes a lot when I wash it. Hopefully I'll be able to tell the difference with my next unit.
