About how long does your lace unit last? I was reading under the "Frequently Asked Questions" and it stated 30-60 days. Do you get longer use out of your lace system? I was thinking about ordering lace but if it costs $500 for the unit andTongue TiedTongue Tied only lasts 30 days I won't be able to afford it.

The system I got (from a different site) is holding up just fine and I have been wearing it 24/7 for...oh, I dunno...at least 30 days. I fried this one, so, I think I am going to probably retire it as a back up since my new one came.  But, even though it is WAY over processed (I thought it was too curly so I straightened it,I colored it, I had it highlighted and repermed) I am sure I could get it to keep going for at least another 90 days. At least.

I am careful to condition it well, careful when I brush it, I only use a curling iron on my bangs and cool blow dryer to *briefly* set some scrunching waves. SUPER important to use the right products.

I went to a local salon (awhile ago) and the best they could do for me was $1400. And I didn't even think it looked that real. The crazy lady that did my first braid (before I had another salon correct her work) wanted to charge me $1600-$1800.

Anyway, I can't speak directly to the HD longevity- someone else will probably chime in.

    Sassy Gal,

Do you wear a whole system that is weaved into your hair? Or is it hair pieces? I am very interested; This may be a solution for me.

I have very fine hair and I have used both sew-in and glue systems. I feel weird about having my head shaved too because I always have this fear of being without my hair piece because of some tragedy and having to walk around looking like a monk. The sew in systems have an enormous (unnatural) amount of hair because of the type of base that is used. I've had 3 different types. The pieces I had, from 2 different companies, were SO heavy that I was constantly aware of them on my head. My hair will not hold a braid because it's so soft and fine so they had to create a braid with a mixture of my hair and synthetic hair. They would have to make it so tight that I would have a headache for two days. Then I'd have two days where it was comfortable and then it would start to loosen. Sometimes after only 2 weeks I could literally slide it off my head. It was very itchy and uncomfortable from all the moving around. The service took at least two hours to unsew and resew it at a price of $180 every 3 weeks. The piece itself was $3,200 because it was good, undyed Italian hair and not overprocessed Asian hair. The salon told me it would last two years (I know better now) but it only lasted about 7 months. Long story short, I thought I would feel more confident with the sew in piece with my own hair growing under it but it was SO uncomfortable and annoying and heavy and painful to sleep in (because it pulls your own hair every which way) I gave it up again and went back to the tape system. My head thanks me. I am going to just buy an emergency clip piece so I feel "safe" should my piece have to be removed for any reason. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.

Where do you tape at? I have hair but it is thinning all over. It's not really thin to most people  (if they have never met me) but I really  notice and so does my family. I had super thick wavy hair and now it's super fine and straight. I don't want to shave anywhere though. I am like you I am afraid it might come off or something and I will have shaved spots. I was told an integration piece would be the best choice. I've been told it works best to shave a track. ( I am not sure what that means) I have also heard that integrations can be more trouble than they are worth too.

Do you wear an integration piece or does it cover juts the top part of your head? I am new to all this so I am still learning about everything out there.

Also, do you do this yourself or do you have a stylist? I would love to order something but I would feel more confident about having someone assist me. I can't seem to find anyone in my area though. I live near Brunswick Georgia about 1 1/2 hours south of Savannah GA and 1 1/2 north of Jacksonville FL.

All of your feedback would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,

That's interesting about your hair. Mine went from poker straight to curly and as it started getting curly it started falling out (around age 14). It makes me sad because it has really pretty corkscrew curls, what I have left. My hair loss is very obvious. I can't really go out in public without wearing some sort of hair because I have female pattern baldness. I am 35. I had a successful hair transplant at age 26 but the original hair all around the transplants is falling out anyway, so it was a huge waste of money.

I don't really know what "shaving a track" means, unless they want you to shave a ring around your head to glue or tape the piece to. When I had the sewn-in piece they used to create a braided track with my hair and synthetic hair. OUCH! Very painful. I went back to shaving just a week ago with an HD piece that covers the top part of my head. There's no point in trying to "save" the few hairs on my head, I wouldn't walk around without some kind of hairpiece or hat on anyway, even if those few hairs WERE there! I shave and tape with Supertape for now. NO hard bond liquid glue. The tape holds so well I had difficulty getting if off. It would really take extreme conditions to pull it off my head (believe me, I've considered all the the scenarios  Big Smile )

I had an integration piece sewn-in for a year and it too pulled and damaged my hair. Plus my hair looked crappy/frizzy pulled through it anyway and so I stopped having it pulled through. I don't know how you could possibly do one of these yourself without a stylist. Seems impossible. The tape or glue pieces that HD sells, you can do that yourself. Maybe you should just try a clip-on piece. They don't require any prep and look fine. I felt uncomfortable in the clips though, like I was wearing a wig. But if you are trying to preserve the hair you have, this could be good for you for a while. You have to remove it for sleeping though. They are painful to sleep in and rip out your hair.

If your hair is that bad I can definitely see why you don't want to shave it. Sounds like it's bad enough to be noticeable to you and those who have known you for a long time, but not noticeable to others. In that case maybe you should consider not wearing hair for now, unless it gets worse. Mine has always been noticeable and I started wearing hair four years ago before it got totally embarassing and difficult to "hide" with creative flipping and pinning! Just know that the sewn-in and integration pieces are very damaging to your hair. They break your hair and pull it out in some places. I have permanent bald spots from places where the piece was sewn in and ripped my hair out repeatedly. I also now have a lovely 1-1/4" rectangular bald spot from permanent clip damage, and that was just from 3 months wearing clips.

There is no perfect or easy solution in my opinion. I'm trying to go with what is most comfortable, least noticeable and not going to send me to the poor house! So far, between the integration piece, the sewn-in piece and the bonded/glue/tape pieces, the tape pieces are it for me...for now anyway. I think when I am older and less "vain" I'll just wear a wig.

    Good luck!

Thank you for your post.. you sound very much like me, I began losing my hair at around age 16 (my daughter is now beginning to lose hers at 16 too - believe me I have lots of guilt over that Crying )... my hair loss is hereditary, all of the men in my dads side of the family have tons of hair, and none of the women do. It's very sad. I am now 34 and looking into this. I have been covering with Organin (like toppix) .. it's working Okay.. but it is so messy and I can't swim with it etc.. And I am engaged to be married, and it makes me cry to think about my hair.. how am I going to manage having a pretty hairstyle for my very first and only wedding? Embarrassed Confused Broken Heart

Ugh anyways I am sorry for the whining.. I just wanted to say thank you for the information you posted.
