Need advice on products (esp. from BrianD)...

  • Need advice on products (esp. from BrianD)...

I sent in my fitting kit today, so now the anxious wait for the tech's call begins. Smile

In the meantime, I figured I'd ask some questions to fellow HD customers, especially BrianD as I realized after watching his awesome how-to video on attaching your system, that I had ordered the same base and hair style that he sports, so my first question is to BrianD: Are you still using the attachment products featured in the pop-up info window on your video? I ask because whatever you are using is doing an incredible job at making it real.

    Other questions:

    1. How do you remove the system? What is the best way/products? Does it depend on the base and/or type of hair (human, synthetic?) My base will be the HD24 full lace.

    2. On my order form, I put down "Not Sure" when asked for my preference of type of hair. What are the differences between choosing human and synthetic or both? Pros and cons?

    3. What is the best way to clean the system? And how often? What products do you use? And is there anything I absolutely must absolutely do or not do when cleaning it?

    4. How long can I wear it for at a time? Will showering/swimming with it on make it come off or loosen?

    5. And at last, what are the essential products I should get for my hair system?

A ,ot of question, I know...But I just really want to be fully prepared as I am completely new to this and want to make the learning curve a little easier by preparation.

    Thanks!Smile

    Hi RCLAR -

    1. I use 99% alcohol and an eyedropper to deliver a good amount of alcohol to the base of the system, all around the sides, back and front.  Hold a rag up on your forehead when you are doing this or get a sweat band.  Just wait about 90 seconds and you can begin to slowly peel the system away from your scalp.  For the HD24 base style tapes and glues are fine.  I would also recommend treating the underside of your new system with the TDI Knot Sealer, just don't use it at the very front hairline of the system.  This will help seal up the knots; let it dry throughly.
    2. Human hair is the way to go for the most natural appearance - just go with 100% human.
    3. Adhesiver Remover to get the adhesives off your scalp. I attach for 1 week at a time, so I use the Mirror Slide to get nearly all the adhesive out of the lace once removed.  Soak a little while in Adhesive Remover then shampoo out any additional residue.
    4. I go for 1 week.  Showering during that time period is okay, don't shampoo every day, but do condition each day.  I don't think you can swim under water with a hair system.
    5. Well you're going to need good shampoo & conditioner for use with your hair system, also a product know as softening fluid to be used about 1 per week.  Here are links to the products I currently use on a daily basis, which is consistent with all the photographs of me you have seen:
And of course the attachment products I use this Glue (frontal) and this Tape (sides / back).  Pizza

Brian D, I cannot thank you enough! I also can't believe you answered all of my questions by yourself. I think you just single-handedly created my entire how-to dossier AND shopping list! Big Smile

Again, thank you. You have no idea what a relief it is to have access to people like yourself on this forum. Yes

Brian, the Pro Flex No Shine tape is currently out of stock, do you have any suggestions in terms of a sufficient alternative (do you have a back-up tape that you use when you cannot use your first choice)?
  • Re: Need advice on products (esp. from BrianD)...

Brian, actually you can swim under water quite freely, assuming the hairpiece is properly and securely attached. Lots of swimming is not good on the hair color though (hairpiece or biological hair), so if you're going to swim more than occasionally, use a cap.

RCLAR, SuperTape works as well as Pro Flex, in my experience.

Thanks for that clarification Random Guy, I have heard both sides, I think it would have to do with the length of the hair as well.  Supertape was also my thought for RCLAR; it will stick directly to lace the same as Proflex, you will just have to figure out which contour to order, perhaps your Hair Tech can help you with that when your system physically shows up.  Or cut the roll or contours to match up to your system as show in DustyAZ's video.

Thank you, Random Guy and Brian D! You've been very helpful, as always! Big Smile

Brian, how long do these products generally last you? Is there a product I should buy more than one of at a time so that I won't have to re-order it all the time?

And the proflex is in stock again, wohoo!

  • Re: Need advice on products (esp. from BrianD)...

Get a few packs of tape.  Nice to have a buffer there.  I always have another bottle of new glue on hand, in case it all spills out or something (carefull flying, always put any glues in ziplocks in your checked baggage!  Yes).  You'll just have to gauge your usage on the other products, but you should be okay I would think for 6-8 weeks.

And when you do re-order, Hair Direct throws in the shipping if your order is greater than $50.  How cool is that?  Figure UPS ground can easily be $10 depending on where you live in the United States, so that's like an instant discount on all your products.

Thanks again for your advice, Brian. Smile And yeah, the free shipping for orders over $50 is a great thing! There's no doubt that it pays off to buy items in larger quantities to push it over $50, as you'll need more of those items in the future anyway. Good stuff. Thanks again, Brian. Yes
