Bad hold

I have had a hair system since January of this year and always use Super Tape.  I work out almost every day so I sweat a lot and i am lucky if I get one week before I have to take off, clean and re-tape my system.  The tape is hard to get off, it almost turns to total goo. Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Hi GLN,

You may just be one of those unlucky clients that will need to experiment with different adhesives to find the one that will give you the appropriate amount of bond that you're looking for.

Sometimes if you are having trouble with a tape adhesive breaking down too quickly you will need to try a liquid adhesive. We offer a few liquid adhesives that can also give an extended bond. You may also want to consider using a combination of a liquid and a tape adhesive to give you the bond that you are looking for.

This is the link to our store where you can look at some of the liquid adhesives we have to offer.

Take a look at the Walker Ultra Hold as well as the Safe Grip Adhesive. Both offer an extended bonding time and may be just what you are looking for.

If you have any further questions or concerns don't hesistate to give us a call or respond to this post and we'll try to answer as quickly as possible.

    Hey GLN,

I used to go somewhere for my systems before I started with HD and they used to attach with tape and liquid.  I never understood why they needed to use both.  What a gooey mess the tape was, and I never ever had a good hold.  It was always the tape that became a mess. So I asked them to just use the liquid adhesive.  It worked great.  It stayed attached about 3 weeks before I needed a touch up.  I have been with HD now for quite a while and I continued using just the liquid adhesive (Vapon No Tape) and it works extremely well for me, and I work out almost every day and sweat also. It could be you, like me, are not a good candidate for tape (body chemistry) even if everybody raves about it.  I would say try a liquid adhesive and see what happens.

    Hey GLN,

MichiganBaldy has recommended Maxim antiperspirant to be applied in 3 light coats prior to application of your system.  You can find it online at:  http://www.coradhealthcare.com/item/maxim .

I haven't used this particular product but I have used other antiperspirants with good results.  Also,  HD has 2 products that are very effective as well:

    Davlyn Skin Protector

    Top Guard Skin Barrier

    Hope this helps!

I can vouch for Maxim; I use it every week prior to attachment and it does help a lot (stabilizes the adhesive so I can get 1 week).  /Brian

    Dude,

I don't have a suggestion yet, but I must say that I had the same experiences you've had. For some reason, on me Super-Tape turns into bananna puddin' within 1-2 days. After abount 3 days, it had the hold of that double sided scotch tape that you use to wrap christmas presents;and everything was just floping in the breeze.  Given the praises of super-tape on this board, I'm assuming that it's a "chemistry thing".

Oddly enough, the only thing I've found that holds up on a weekly to bi-weekly basis is the white cloth backed tape (that I used around the back and sides), and that clear tape that has the red backing (on the front).  Both have ratings of 1-2 days, but both have blown everything else away thus far.  Everything else has turned into Chinese rubber cement (without the tack) within days!

Since everything I've done thus far has been opposite of the reccomendations, So... I've resolved to order a pack of every F#$%'ing  flavor of  tape that HD has to offer until I find my "tape-soulmate"!  Thus far it's been cloth tape and that red-backed clear stuff, but that leaves much to be desiered!

Maybe I'll have to move into the hard-glue relm.  When I was at APolO, their hard glue thing kept me going for about 7-8 weeks!  I'd rather tape it on, but if I have to, I'll get 'er done with hard glue.  Seems like a lot of work to me!
