So I am using super tape oa ful cap, i stil have some healthy hair on the location where i tape, so at the end most tape stayed on the poly, not on my scalp (except for my crown where it is quite bald.
anyway, i was trying to catch up with the clean up instruction (http://www.hairdirect.com/resources/maintenance/cleaning.aspx) but it didnt say how much adhesive removal we should use to soak the system... i have about 90% of the super tape left on the poly
i tried to peel off the tape before the it completely came out and damn, i shed so much hair the other day i was freaking out ... it took me 3 hours to clean up and i still dont think my unit is so clean..

Hi emerymiller,
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the poly units, as I wear a lace one instead. However, I don't do the soaking method, as this takes too long (in my opinion), so I simply use some fine edged tweezers to carefully work the tweezer's blade between the tape and the lace. Once I have the tape in the tweezers, I gently pull on it and the tape will start to come right off. (Now, I've never done cleanup with a poly unit, so who knows if this trick will actually work for you.)
If any excessive adhesive is on the unit, most likely, you can get it off by doing the mirror slide trick. Here it is on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ6Z6JtQL-8
However, please take my advice with a grain of sand, as I don't work with poly units. Can anyone else provide some help?

Hi Enerymiller
When saoking a unit in adhesive remover, put enough remover in a flat container to cover the unit( about 1/2"of liquid).Soak for about 45 munites to start. Because super tape goes on like tape but breaks down like glue,as it soaks it will get like jelly. When you remover the unit from soaking, take the side of a spoon and scrape the jelly off the unit. If there is still adhesive residue on the unit, put it back in the remover and soak for another 45 minutes or more until all the adhesive can be scraped clean fron the unit. You may have to scrape the jelly of the unit several times before the adhesive is completely clean from unit. Then make sure you wash your unit with Dawn dish detergent a couple of times to get the oil residue off your unit. If you need more help give us a call we will be happy to help you.

I have used your method of soaking the system, the tape came out quite reasonably. My concern is that I have used up half of the bottle of the adhesive remover in 1 night, am i using too much ?? (or too little?) ...
also, which adhesive remover do you recommend, if any, to soak the system? Thanks!
Hi Emerymiller
No, depending on the size of the container you are soakingyour unit in, you may need to use that much to soak the base in. Keep in mind you can reuse the adhesive remover over and over again. That is why we tell you to get a tupperware container with a lid. If you don't keep a lid on it the remover will evaporate but you can reuse it until it starts to change color and the left over adhesive starts floating in it. Then it's time to dump it out and use fresh remover.
I like the Protouch and the C-22. They both work well to clean the units.
Hi. I trust that you are using red liner tape first on the poly part of your system? If you have a poly perimeter and are not using the red liner tape before applying Supertape, I can see why it was difficult getting off and you are losing hair. On poly perimeters use red liner tape, then Supertape is applied on top of the red liner tape. When it's time to detach, here is what I do: I gently pull up a front corner of my system and use my fingernail to get to the red liner tape. I then pull the tape all around my system off of the poly perimeter and the entire circle of tape is left on my head. IMO this is the best way to do this because it leaves very LITTLE tape residue on the system. It's easier to get glue off of my scalp than off of my system. To get the tape off of my scalp, I simply use 91% alcohol and some C-22 underneath the tape and the whole piece of tape comes right off in one piece. Of course, when I am applying the red liner tape to my poly perimeter I ALWAYS overlap the pieces of the red liner tape because if you don't, the above method will not work. You'll have to keep grabbing for the end of the tape to pull it off. Anyway, this method gets the Supertape and red liner tape off in one piece.
Also, there is a product that you can get at Home Depot (Wal-Mart, at least my Wal-Mart, does not sell this product in bigger bottles) called Goo Gone Citrus Cleaner that is about identical to the C-22 and you can get a large bottle for around $5.00. You can use this to soak your system in and that cuts down the expense. I still use the C-22 for my own scalp though because the contents of Goo Gone have never, to my knowledge, been officially compared to C-22 and I am afraid to use the Goo Gone on my scalp.
Hope this helps.
very helpful and interesting info indeed... this is only my first time hearing overlapping red liner with ST.. must be producing a thick layer but I guess for younger people with thick hair it should be fine ?!?
on the other hand, it will probably take you a longer time to apply the tape because you are applying 2 layers... the sticker always stick to my fingers.. do you guys happen to spray some alcohol to the tape before touching it ?
- Thanks :)
