How to tape lace front?

  • How to tape lace front?

Going to switch from full cap to lace front soon... one question bother me is how to tape the front lace.

I am currently using Supertape - not sure if it is the best tape for frontal lace.

My main concern is whether I need to tape *right at the edge* of the lace... of course, I don't think I should leave an edge, but I am thinking cutting the tape so that I am taping right at the edge is quick difficult, isn't it?

Also, I know having a good attachment in frontal is more difficult at the back... should I go with ST or other type of tapes? I am planning to do a 3-4 weeks bonding. Thanks all.

    Hello emerymiller,

You can use supertape on your lace front. You can also use a liquid adhesive fro the very front if you would choose not to use the tape at the very front edge. Here is a link to BrianD's viedo that he did, this might help you out with attachment. Yes

Im wondering the same thing about tape on the front hairline. Do you tape a littlle past the front lace or right up to the edge?

    Hello bhambomber,

It would be your preference if you would want to tape the whole way to the fornt edge. You can, but you dont have to. You can tape the front and leave the front edge to apply the glue. Here is Brian D's viedo to help you better understand.

    Christie,

I just want to use tape so can i go over the edge of the lace?

  • Re: How to tape lace front?

    Hi bhambomber,

i wouldn't go over the lace. You might find that you will be able to see the lace on your skin and with it being double sided, you will see the dirt and what not sticking on the tape if it is extended past the lace. So no i would not recommend doing that. Just put the tape as far as you can to the front edge of the lace.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Hi Emery,

I use SuperTape for my front lace and it works good for me!

A quick question:  Do you wear bangs with your hair style?  The reason for asking is because glue (in my opinion) is a little less detectable in the front than SuperTape.  However, SuperTape is an absolute joy when it comes to the clean up process, where as glue can be -- well, not all that much fun...  Tongue Tied

Have you seen my personal examples of SuperTape?

(If interested, you can see both of the photos by clicking here.)

    For attachment:

I don't know if this technically is right, or not, but I always place my tape directly to the edge of the lace hair system.  One trick that I use (if your hair system has scalloped edges) is to scallop the tape itself.  I use Fiskar wave scissors to do this.  These scissors are kind of hard to get -- as it seems that they sell out way too quickly at the stores.  Who knows why...  (Maybe tons of bald guys, like me, are buying them up!  LOL...)

    Hope this helps!

    Dusty,

I think I am going to have to give SuperTape a try for my side and back perimeter attachment, it sounds like you have a lot of success with it.  Although I like the Proflex No-Shine, and it sticks just fine (hey, I'm a poet!!), I am wondering of cleanup in comparison to the ST, it sounds like I might save some time.

Dusty, you are awesome, and thanks for helping so many people out in this forum which definitely includes me.  You put a lot of time and personal effort into helping people, and your look is awesome!  Thanks Dusty!  Big Smile

p.s.  I have been meaning to ask, what is your hair style HD number if I might ask?  Thanks.  /Brian

    Hi Brian,

Yeah, you are quite the skilled poet ... and also gifted at making videos too!  Big Smile

The hair style number that I am currently using is #25.  In the past, I used to wear #11, but found it to be difficult to wear, as the hair seemed to be thicker in the center and somewhat thinner on the sides.  It kind of gave me the "fish" look -- whether I wanted it, or not.  Wink  Also, today, the guys are wearing their hair "very short" -- so #25 fits right on in with the others.

I used to use Proflex with my hair system (for the first six months), but quickly made the transition to SuperTape, as (for me) the cleanup is a real joy.  I can clean out all of the residual glue from my system in about 2 minutes with the mirror slide.  Also, SuperTape doesn't seem to melt down, which is a huge relief!  You just pull the tape back off and the base is mostly clean.

However, everybody's body chemistry is different.  What works great for me might not be so wonderful for you.  Wink  I have to admit that I had a horrible meltdown mess with Proflex tape the first time that I tried it.  I wore my unit for 10 days (thinking that it would go for 4 weeks <giggle> and on the 11th day, it literally fell off my head, even though I had done a thorough scalp preparation, etc.  (Hey, some can get the four weeks, but I'm not one of those lucky ones!)  The tape literally turned into a nasty version of "peanut butter & jelly".  It was very sticky with slimy goo that somehow got into the hair itself -- I just couldn't seem to get rid of it, no matter what I did!  Finally, Babe (the Wonderful) provided me with the awesome tip of using a Microfiber towel -- it came right out...  Wink  Whew...

Take care -- and thanks for all of the great help that you've been here too!  I've learned a lot from you experts, like you...

  • Re: How to tape lace front?

Dusty, thanks for your reply ... I still need big time help getting it right :(

First, I do wear bang ... my face can still justify the hairline bangs.. so I am fine for now.

May I ask if you have also cut your lace with that scissors?

Also, when you say clean up is so easy... do you soak your piece when you are cleaning up? Because as of last time I took it off, all the tape are on the poly and When i peel it off (withou thte adhersive remover), I peeled off sooooooo much hair Crying

  • Re: How to tape lace front?

    Hi Emery,

First, I only use a lace system, so I don't know anything about a poly units.  Sorry, wish I could help more with that!  Wink

With my lace unit, I do not do any cutting on it.  Instead, I only cut the tape itself and place it along the perimeter.  For me, it produces a very natural and believable appearance, which is great.  However, you'll want to talk to your hair tech about what options are available for those with poly systems.

For those with a lace hair system, I use 99% alcohol and the mirror slide.  Works great.  I have my unit cleaned up and ready for tape attachment in only a few minutes.

  • Re: How to tape lace front?

    Hi Dusty,

I undersatnd that we don't cut lace everytime we taken it off, but what about the first time you got your unit? do you cut in with your nice scissors yourself?

Secondly, do you mean you do not use any adhesive remover but alcohol to soak the system for your cleanup?-thx

    HairDirect is Good! :)

  • Re: How to tape lace front?

    Hi Emery,

First, I don't make any cuts to my lace hair system itself.  The only thing that I use the scissors on is the tape.  Wink  This helps to reduce potential reflection (in my opinion), especially along the outward edge.

Here's my cleanup routine.  No, I personally do not soak, nor do I like to use alcohol very much, as it will dry out the hair with time!...  Others prefer to do this and there may be advantages to doing so -- however, I use a disposable hair system, so it's not an issue to me.

    1) Spray alcohol along the tape line with the lace unit.  Wait 30 seconds and start to gently lift away the unit.  The tape should stay stuck to your head.

    2)  Wash out the alcohol from the unit.

    3) Pull the tape off of your head.

    4) Use the mirror slide to remove any remaining sticky residue on the hair system.  I just published a link to my video tutorial of this today on the HD forums.

    5) Shampoo & Condition

    6) Reapply SuperTape

    7) Reattach to one's head.

Have you checked out  Michigan Baldy's DVD?  Many of these topics are covered in it.
