Too shave or not to shave???

  • Too shave or not to shave???

I wear a partial system, just on the top of my head. My natural hair is so thin that i cannot wear it out in public. I am contemplating shaving my hair, so that i can apply my system more semi-permanently with glue. I'm so nervous to do this, but i think it would make so much more sense for me.  Putting the hair on each day frustrating only because the tape sticks to my hair not my scalp so it doesnt stay in place well, and the clips pull and it hurts.  I guess im just looking for advice on making the big decision to shave my hair.... very nervous !

Don't be nervous.  Personally, I don't think shaving your head is a bad idea at allSmile.  Many wear full lace wigs and are happier once they have saved.  The unit fits better because the it will lay flat on a smooth surface rather than hair that has been braided and tucked under a wig cap.  Your natural scalp will breathe more freely and the part would look extremely natural because your scalp will be visible through the lace.  I would suggest that you shave your head completely and graduate from a partial system to a full lace system.  Just think of the freedom you'll have not having to worry about slippage!Big Smile  Please, please choose your adhesive carefully paying particular attention the warnings and drying time, use a scalp protection product before adhering the unit, and if you are not experienced in applying a lace wig, go to a salon and have it installed.  Life is too short to stress so shave and be done with it.  Look good and enjoy you life! Wink I hope I have helped you in some way.Smile

Deanna, First of all, your pictures are beautiful. As to the shaving....just do it!  It is so much better to be done with the icky old hair, and to wear your new beautiful hair 24/7.  I highly recommend it.  Besides, what it there were an emergency during the night, and you had to run outside without your hair?  I would scare even my animals!

Sometimes we have to let go of the old to grad ahold of something better.  Good luck!

    Deanna,

If you are only wearing a partial, I would highly advise you do NOT shave your entire head.  If you are only thin on top, then we are talking about shaving only the top part of your head.  Indeed it must be very scary to have to make a decision on this matter.  I talk to men and women all day about hair loss but I couldn't even begin to imagine what you are going through.  I think for you, you must weigh the pros and cons to make your decision.  You said that the clips are not holding and pull. I would imagine that the insecurity of the clips and having to tape onto your own hair is causing you to worry about it coming off.  If you were to shave, yes your thin hair would be gone, but you could then wear your system to shower, sleep, swim, exercise etc.....  and therefore anytime of day or night look into a mirror and see yourself w/a full head of hair.  It is a big decision and you should take your time to decide.  Either way, you are a beautiful girl and could wear your hair anyway or none at all and still be gorgeous.  Remeber, we are here if you want to call or email.  Big Smile
