Hair replacement systems custom-made anddelivered to your door. 100% guaranteed!
You should be able to order the kit and the next time your system is off, take a mold of your head and send it in to have a new piece made. (I am assuming you want to go thru HD and not the hairdresser. IMO, $2K is way too much to pay for a system.)
When I used to have a bonded piece, I changed it myself. I was never able to make it more than 4-5 weeks.
There is a very informative DVD by MichiganBaldy that you might benefit from- i think you can order it here
Good luck!
Sassy Gal,
Did you have a hard bond and remove the system yourself? Did you shave it off or use solvent?
Lady in Red
Thanks SassyGal for your input.
When you used to have a bonded piece, you changed it yourself? That's what I want to do!
What kind of piece do you have now?
Lady in Red-
With my previous system, it was lace with sort of a poly perimeter so that I could put tape around the sides and then I used white glue for the lace front. Not sure what a hard bond is...I would use 100% alcohol (orC22) to loosen the tape and glue.
SuzyQ-
Yup, I changed the piece myself.
Basically, once a month or so, I would remove the system with a solvent. I would do the best I could to get the tape goo out of my hair; take a shower and scrub my head good. Take a Wahl shaver and shave as close to the scalp as possible. touch it up with a razor. (in other words, I was taught to shave to bare skin.)
Then I would put the tape on the perimeter of the system and glue on my forehead. I would line up the front hairline first and get it good and adhered and then gradually remove the backing of the two sided tape and work around the perimeter of my head.
Currently I am wearing a wig because I hated wearing a system...actually I hated changing my system. Also, it was so darn expensive I was always worried about it. ($2400 for one. I had two.) When you have something that expensive on your head, you worry about not ruining it.
I want to be done with the wig because I hate when the wind blows and I worry about the wefts showing; I can't swim in it; the front hairline doesn't look realistic when the bangs blow upward- I just want the 'freedom' of having a more realistic solution. Although, I have to say, I get TONS of compliments on my wig. The people that I tell it's a wig are beyond shocked. One lady said "I've been cutting hair for 25 years. I NEVER would have thought it was a wig."
I am hoping to switch back to wearing a system in the next week or two. My plan is to not shave and to try some different experiments to see if I can get the system on in some other way. (Not clips.) I have read that some people use Got2B glue to plaster their hair to their head and tape on top of that. I have read that some people use Liquid Gold to attach the hairs of the system to the hairs of their head. I picked up some extensions that use Tembond to attach them (basically a wax) and I am thinking that I might try that.
I had a system that I just sent to be permed and highlighted and I should be getting back any day now. I have everything else I need to do my experiments, so I am anxious to see what I can do.
Hopefully I will be able to be free of my wig by this time next week AND not have to wear the system using clips or shaving. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Hi Suzyq,
it sounds like you are ready to experiment with a couple diferent methods of attachment. i just want to let you know that all attachment methods are the preference of the individual client and how their body chemistry reacts and breaksdown the adhesive, so right now you are doing what probably every hair wearer out there as had to do at one point or another and that is experiment. It is going to be trial and error right now, but as long as your are patient, you'll find something that works for you. There are also a lot of posts on here that might help you as well. So please feel free to look around. You also can always give us a call and we can help you the best that we can as well, we are more than happy to help anytime.
As far as getting a new unit made, maybe before you take off your wig, you can send us your unit so that we can duplicate it for you as far as the hair, color, base and ect. We then can overnite (no charge) it back to you, so you wont have to be without it for a period of time. So that is always an optioon for you too.
Like i said before, if you need anything please let us know anytime.
take care,
Christie
