    I have NEVER been so embarrassed and HUMILITATED in my life!

    A package came to me today, which was passed along to EVERYONE my company. I am now the butt of every one of my EMPLOYEE'S JOKES!

    The label RIGHT ON THE FRONT OF THE PACKAGE??

    "HAIRPIECE MEASURING KIT"

    I will be looking into what action I can take regarding this issue, but I wanted to warn ANYONE considering ordering from HD about their lack of discretion.

    Thanks HD. You have just completely humiliated me, and made me the laughing stock of my own company.

    Hmmmm, seems to me it was a bad choice on your part to have something like that delivered to your place of business.  I have a feeling that most of HD's customers are very careful about having packages from their hair company mailed to a private place.  As a matter of fact, I have my systems mailed to my mother's address in another town.  She's about the only one who knows about my hair problem.  I don't see how you have any reason to complain when you have something mailed like that to your place of employment.  HD has been VERY careful and discreet in mailing me my packages but I also have enough common sense to be careful about what address I use.  I am sorry for your humiliation and realize how embarrassing this was for you but when you had HD mail this to your place of employment, you should have inquired as to what would be on the label on the outside of the package.

    How did I know that the very first reply I'd get would be how this was "my fault".

    I don't have a mother to use as my shipping address.

    Also, you might think about another reason why not to have packages mailed to your place of employment because even if those words were not written on the outside of the package, someone in the company could inadvertently OPEN the package.  That is a primary reason why I don't have HD items mailed to my place of employment because I would live in fear that somebody would open the package without looking to see that it was addressed to me.  That happens at my place of employment, which is a law firm, because we have lots of boxes delivered to our place and the receptionist often opens them. 

    You may not have a mother to have your packages mailed to but I am sure you have a home, or perhaps a friend's address.

    It seems to me like this is the risk that you are going to have to take if you have your hairs shipped to your place of work.  I can't see why you are mad at hair direct, all they do is provide amazing prices on real quality stuff.  I've got 3 on right now I like them so much.  I mean seriously though, if you calm down and think of it all you really ought to have it sent maybe to a friends house or a PO box or something if it is going to be that big of an issue for you. I don't see how any of this could possibly be HD's fault and thinking further, what can you do its over with now and everyone knows. ha ha Baldy McBoss har har har it will pass over soon, i guarantee you.  So just keep up with every day life and watch it go by!

    SO only those who have certian addresses shoudl order from HAIR DIRECT. Understood.

    Since I'm not home during the day, and this is the only address I can have packages sent to, I will take the advice of HD's cleints, and not order from HD anymore.

    I wold have assumed that a company who deals in MAIL ORDER of SENSATIVE and potentially embarrasing material would be moire careful, but I've bnow been educated that its MY fault, and that I'm obviously not the "ELITE: client you all seem to be.

    Sorry, but i DO expect discresion from a comapny like HD. Printer HAIRPIECE MEASURING KIT on the front of a package is well beyond quality control in my opinion. However... Since I'm not the "desired member of the "CLUB..."

    That's strange Tongue Tied [:S]... When I got my fitting kit, only the words "Fitting kit" were written in very small letters at the bottom of the address tag. Someone would have to open the clear nylon pocket (glued on the package), take the invoice out and read it, in order to find out what's in the package.

    For the first time in my life, I'm not alone in this...

    Bro,

    You should never have anything like this mailed to your work!  Big no, no!  However, I will say that HD is on the spot for mailing a package that says anything about hair replacement on the front.  They advertise "discrete" on all of their materials.  I feel for you brother, but next time be a little wiser.

    You should have had the material mailed to your home and NOT to your place of biz.  As a privacy consultant to the medical profession I can tell you that you legally have no expectation of privacy if you have confidential information mailed to your place of employment.  It is not HDs responsibility to figure out whether or not the address supplied is a private address for the client.  You also have the option of requesting that anything from HD be sent to you under CONFIDENTIAL COVER.  If you did not exercise this option and then requested that the material be sent to your place of employment, the culpability rests with you and not with HD.

    I read this post and went back and looked at my fitting kit and, sho'nuff, the words "Fitting Kit" were on the label in extremely small print.  In addition, the return addy was HD, Inc. and there was nothing to indicate that there was anything in the box having to do with hair replacement.

    I'm sure that I speak for more than just one of us when I say I'm sorry you were "discovered" by your employees.  I'm sure it was embarrassing.  No doubt you have read my posts where I describe hiding my "products" in feminine hygiene bottles at home to prevent discovery.

    However, for months I thought about what would happen if someone "found me out".  There are lots of paths to take when it happens. 

    1. You can choose to misdirect your frustration and anger - "I can't believe the label said what was in the box - what a bunch of coconuts!" - This will only make others want to defend HD because the address you chose to ship to was your choice.  It also may cause others to believe you don't accept any responsibility for the snafu.  I'm certain that isn't the case, you appear to be a very educated gentleman.

    2. You can become a role model to others - "Yes, I've noticed recently that I'm losing some hair and so I thought I would research some options." This would show others what a leader you are and possibly give hope to someone in your very own office who is suffering even more than you...

    3. Humor - the next employee who makes a wise remark about my hair will force me to re-evaluate the bonus program...LOL

    Regardless of which option you choose from this point forward, I am certain that HD will re-evaluate the packaging verbiage to prevent causing any of us embarrassment.

    it's not your fault, it's hd's shipping department's!

    what they did was stick the pc printed order on the box, instead of just the address label, you have every right to be fuming

    You have every right to be furious and we extend our sincerest apologies. Please know that we take our customers privacy extremely seriously and work very hard to ensure complete discretion in every type of transaction.

    As soon as we learned about your post we investigated to find out what could possibly have gone wrong. Here is what happened:

    Canadian customs requires by law that specific paperwork and product descriptions are enclosed with every package brought into the country. We are able to comply and still maintain customer privacy by enclosing this paperwork in a see-through sleeve on the outside of the box in a way that product descriptions are not visible.

    Unfortunately what happened in this case is that Canadian customs flagged the package in a routine audit, pulled the paperwork and inserted it back into the sleeve upside-down with the product description facing outward. This is a unique and unforeseen situation that had not been planned for.

    The photo below is how international packages leave our office.

    I realize this doesn’t remedy your situation, but please know that we would never knowingly send anything that would compromise your privacy.

    We will be contacting customs to find out if there is a way to avoid this from ever happening again.

    If HD made a mistake on the printing label, that even more so reinforces why I would never have anything delivered to my place of employment.  Mistakes happen as I am sure that Gavin knows since he's the president of a company.  There is probably not one of us on this message board who hasn't experienced embarrassment and/or humiliation on our hair problems in one way or another.  We just have to keep going and hold our chin up!!!!  I have no doubt that other hair companies have made the same mistake.

    It might not be a bad idea (especially when dealing with an international shipping situation) to have some sort of reminder on the ordering site and on your paperwork regarding this little wrinkle when dealing with Customs.  It might also help to have a note that in order for the customer to assist in preserving their privacy, they should never have HD products sent to a public address.
