  • Second unit completely different from the first!

My second unit arrived today and it is totally different from the first one.

    1. Different color
    2. Different hairline
    3. Different density
    4. No transitional front at all
    5. Hair sticking out inside the lace

I hope this isn't a case of never being able to match what I already have.....again...

Will they take care of this?

Hi James.  First, that sounds like too many differences from your first system.  Yes, HairDirect makes good on their remakes, adjustments, whatever it takes just so you contact them and get them your system within the 30 day guarantee range.  I know that is not a good solution because it takes so long to get your system either re-made or adjusted to what it should have been, particularly if your back-up is getting ragged.

That being said, I will tell you that you will probably never get an identical system each time you order because it's a different hair donor, a different person at the factory sewing it together, etc.  However, the factory should be able to closely replicate your system without so many differences.

I hope you can get this resolved quickly.

This sort of post freaks me out. I'm expecting my first two units in a couple of weeks. I hope I won't need to return them.

  • Re: Second unit completely different from the first!

That is scary, but keep in mind that it is the exception, not the rule. I'm sure the vast majority of HD customers are very satisfied. Maybe there was a mix up and he got someone elses hair. Hmm

Poor William Shatner, still getting a bad rap for the years he wore a 'hair helmet'. Actually, he had a great looking piece in the original Star Trek TV series, and he has a nice one now ( probably from HD ). So, why don't we cut the guy a little slack. And how about Burt Reynolds?  He finally has great looking hair, but with that awful face lift, no one notices.Sad

Hahaha Jeff, did you know that wasThe Shat-Man's actual growing hair, in the Start Trek TV series? Straight up! Then no one saw him for several years... until he turned up in movies again with suspiciously thick, curly brown hair! His systems these days, let's be honest, if you were one of the 2 people who never knew the secret, you never would!

I'm going to venture Ted Danson, and John Travolta into the deal, too!

And I'm sure that David Tennant wears a system... I just... can't prove it yet... *note my Oscar winning Shatner impression*

    THG :-)

    hi y`all,

i heard benn affleck wore allegedly but i saw a pic of him recently and he has a shaved head number 2 with a proper hairline...so that blew it out of the water the myth anyhow....

but the fact that we can now even question people with real hair says how good modern hair replacement is....

in fact it says we are living in a great age...where hair technology is so realistic ...we just arent sure...and probably wouldnt even look twiceStick out tongue

Hate to disagree with you, Hair guy, but he was wearing a piece in the original series. You can Google William Shatner hairpiece and see a lot of close ups. The good ones fool the best of us. I did see Shatner in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, which was pre- Star Trek, with his own growing hair. It was much thinner then.

Yeah, I've unfortunately experienced this on a few occasions.  My first duplication was perfect, the second one I bought was as if they sent me someone else's unit.  The next couple were pretty good, but different hairline shapes each time (some scalloped, some not) but they generally fit.  For my last order I bought two units, both do not fit right and thankfully I am able to send one back.  I have the unit I sent for duplication - and the latest units HD sent are at least 1/2" wider (at the widest place) than what should be my specs (or whatever you call it.  So now, the unit doesn't really fit and bunches up and wrinkles because the base is too big.  1/2" might not sound like a lot, but it is.  I use the poly perimeter with a lace middle, so there's not a whole lot of "wiggle room" with these before they don't fit and are uncomfortable.

HD has always been helpful to resolve the issue, but I wish I would simply get the same unit each time.  I also haven't really been able to return them becase I order a new one so that when my current one is no longer viable I have a new unit to cut in.  I can't exactly send that back.  This last time I got two, so I only "lose" on one since I sent the other back.

It doesn't appear that there is any checking between the factory and the customer, but I guess I understand that since volume would be an issue and the units would become more expensive I'd imagine.  Therefore, the real issue is that whoever makes the units for HD isn't always doing a good job, but we're at their mercy.

Those who wear the dispoable units probably wouldn't experience as much difficulty with deviations to the unit's base or "curve" since they seem to be completely pliable. A unit with a partial poly base will be shaped to the head, like a contact lens is shaped to eye.  So when the base is off, it just doesn't fit right, feel right and ulimately doesn't look right.

Sorry to vent in your thread, but know that you aren't alone.  I still think HD is great, its just that like I said before we are at someone else's mercy, and there seems to be no intermediary quality check.

At my old place the units were always good, so I've never experienced this before.  I must say its a nervewracking time when I first have a new unit placed on my head since I never really know what I'm going to get.

Thankfully, HD has a money back guarantee. This entire thread has made me very skeptical of HD’s quality control. What are the hair techs, just sales reps? Hmm

Ah, Jeff, I think we need forensics in on this one ;)

Question: if he wore a system in the original series, that fooled me, how come he exchanged it for a thick black rug later on??? :) Another Shatner-esque mystery!

    Peace!

UPDATE! Jeff, I bow to you, sir! You were, and are, right! Seems that The Captain did wear a system for the very first Star Trek series. I have to say -- I had no idea! Shame he didn't cut the lace back a little more on that one shot that gives him away... Just for fun, here's Mister Shatner once more, this time in 1959.

    Hello, Hairguy,

Yes, that shot of him from '59 is definitely a piece. Hollywood hairpieces looked pretty much the same in those days. That's the reason I can spot them. I believe the reason he, as well as many other actors, switched to the heavier, non lace rugs is because they are much easier to put on and take off. I don't think they had developed the long term adhesives yet, so dealing with the delicate lace pieces every day became a pain. On the set the hair was attached by the make up department, so I'm sure most actors weren't inclined to do it themselves. Also the '70s and 80s brought the longer hairstyles which were combed forward over the hairline anyway. I think the system he wears now looks good, though.Yes

It has been 4 days since I posted my concerns and I have YET to get any response from HD on this critical issue.  Where are they?????????

  • Re: Second unit completely different from the first!

    Sorry, James,

I guess we all went off on a tangent on your question.  I'm sure it's no laughing matter to you.  You will probably hear from HD today. I'm sure they will correct the problem.
