We Move, You Win

Our little hair company from the cornfields of Bainbridge, Pennsylvania has gone through monumental changes over the past 19 years.

Seriously, I'm talking big change; from 2 employees to over 50, twenty customers to more than 50,000, even moving from the owner's living room to one of the largest commercial buildings in town. But through all of that change there is one thing that has stayed the same... until now.

In a few short weeks HD will be picking up and moving down the road. Away from our comfy longtime home here in Bainbridge, our founder's childhood and current hometown (oh boy is his commute about to change!) We're going to miss our river views, and the bar down the street with the giant stuffed pig, to say the least.

At the same time, our new home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania comes not a moment too soon. For years now, we've been bursting at the seams. We had to move our warehouse offsite, and our video production studio is in a rented storage unit. Some dedicated staff even rides a shuttle in to work everyday because we've run out of parking!

Right about now you might be asking yourself "Why do I care?" and that's a totally valid question. So enough talking about us, let's talk about you. And how — exactly — this move and our incredible new location in Lancaster is going to be just as great for you as it will for us.

  1. Retail Hot Bed
    We're opening a 2,500 square foot retail hair loss center to better serve our local customers. But it's got a secret mission. We know that many of our customers around the world could use some help locally every now and then so we're using this retail center as a testing ground to eventually rollout localized support and stylists across the globe.

    Naturally we have some crazy ideas for how to better serve our global customer base on a local level. More on that later.

  2. Finishing Center
    Hair systems need TLC sometimes, and our finishing center is up to the task. We currently operate a small room in the back of Bill's home where we do maintenance and finishing work to customer units. In the new building our talented hair techs will finally get a space to call their own.

    But not only that, we'll have better tools and work areas so we can provide improved services and faster turnaround times on repairs and production. The entire space is setup like a lab, so Bill and Dung will have all the room they need to continue pumping out hair system innovations.

  3. Bigger Badder Warehouse
    Not only is our warehouse finally moving back to the mothership where it belongs, it's also getting a brain transplant. We hired some really smart people to help us create a logistical symphony that promises to get orders out faster and more accurately than ever before.

    The benefits here are obvious; you can expect more reliable service and the increased efficiencies will help keep overhead costs down which means our low price guarantee can stay in place for many years to come.

  4. Flashy Studio
    Our production studio/storage unit is also getting a ticket home. Not only will our delicate high definition video camera be safer (and warmer) at night, it will also see a lot more action.

    Our team is already gearing up to bring you even more instructional and educational videos, at better quality than before. This also means we'll have more capabilities with technologies like webcasts - so look for lots of exciting new ways to connect with us soon!

There you have it... four reasons why this move is a win-win. For us, and you. Construction has been going on for months now and we're nearly there! We'll tell you (and show you) more about the new office once we get there.

Oh, by the way, moving an entire company ain't easy. It's going to take us a few days. We'll provide more details later, but we're going to be offline for a short time while stuff like computers, desks and phones are transported and setup at the new office. So please be patient with us, when we get back we'll be better than ever!

My professional background is in design and web development. After starting (and then selling) a small web firm back in the good 'ole dot com days I did a short stint at a production company called JPL. That's what led me right to Hair Direct's door. After more than 7 years with HD, I'm now a Senior Vice President and handle all of our Marketing and Customer Experience initiatives and it really is a bad ass job. Obviously I'm biased, but still compelled to brag that these guys (the Bills) run a really great, honest company that dedicates itself to innovation and market leadership. I'm lucky to be working with such great people in such an interesting and fun industry.
