This morning I woke up at about 5:00 AM, one of those beautiful hot summer mornings in South Central Pa. I went out on the patio to have my first cup of coffee. I looked at the (Susquehanna) river and there just happened to be a huge flock of about 300 Canadian Geese swimming by.
The flock stretched out for about half a mile. In the front was a line of about 30 geese, behind them there was a large group and some smaller groups and then some other lines of geese.
I sat there watching them for almost half an hour. As I watched, I wondered what my lesson was in this? My thought was, they are all swimming up stream against the current. Every now and then one of them would stretch himself up on the water and flap his wings.
It looked like they were on some kind of a mission. I noticed the same leader stayed in the lead and all the rest followed him. Every one had to pull their own weight. Even the leader who was providing the direction for the entire flock had to also swim and carry his own weight against the current.
I hope he knew why and where he was leading them. This story may sound corny but it sure made me stop and think.
Have a great hair day,
Bill
