The Perfect Process

Can you imagine how many people in this world wear hair? Millions! Millions of different people from different places and we all have so much in common. One thing that I can tell you about people who wear hair is that it’s one heck of a bunch of creative souls! Think about it. Hair wearers all search and experiment. We are all engineers Geeked in one way or another. We seek out the best way for us to order our hair, attach our hair, clean our hair, keep it soft, etc. We all strive to find the finish line and collect our prize. Everyone wants to earn the gold medal for the best, most realistic hair wearer….right?

I thought about this “learning curve” for a long time last night and here is what I discovered. It NEVER ENDS!!! Heck, when I first started wearing hair, it was wigs. First, I wore them the regular way. Next, I used bobby pins and tiny ponytails to attach them. Next, I attached them to braids…and so on and so on. Well, it’s the same thing here at Hair Direct.

When I first started wearing hair from Hair Direct, I was so adamant that I MUST have a four-week attachment. I was willing to do whatever it took to get that month long hold. I started with the Ultra hold glue…what a MESS! Then, I tried the ProFlex tape…that was a mess too! I kept experimenting and then found Supertape. Wow…what a discovery that was! I still kept it on for a month…  But after many months, I started varying my routine. I became much quicker with my de and re (detach and reattach) procedure. As some of you can verify, I had it down to 12 minutes flat! Time Woo hoo!  I kept experimenting. Just like Tim Ferris Angeldiscovered – and now Bill too – I have found that a quick ten minute de/re every 7 to 14 days has worked best for me.

Our ideas of success and perfection seem to morph on a continual basis. It is all that “learning curve” you read about so often. I think almost all of us go through the same process – but at different stages. When I first started with Hair Direct, you could NEVER have convinced me that I would end up changing every week…NO WAY! To me, it was well worth the 3-4 hours Snail it took me to de/re….can you imagine???  Just read some of the old posts and you will see what I mean! I used to go to my mom’s house for the entire afternoon for the privacy!

Then, as my confidence (and knowledge) increased thanks to this website and the tons of awesome clients who share so many tips and experiences, I became an engineer – restructuring my methods and experimenting with everything. I graduated to de/re every three weeks…then every two weeks…and now, every 7 to 14 days as my schedule allows.

The funny thing is, I think I have a great routine (which HD will be sharing live with you) but I’m not foolish enough to believe I am finished learning! We are too creative and curious to ever jump off the learning curve…besides…I can see that Gold medal sparkling down the road.  Star

Race you to it???

Hi Babe-

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your insight and willingness to give us gals pep talks. But 12 minutes? You must have more than one unit to swap. How do you clean it and your head so fast? I am still on the 3 hour flat plan, every two weeks. This is the first week that I went three weeks and the mess (SuperTape) was the worst I've seen. It added an hour to my regime. Two weeks max for me from now on! I'd still like to know how you do it so fast. I can easily get it on and off that fast, its the head and unit cleaning and shaving that takes the 3 hours. Thanks again!

Hey Babe, You hit the nail on the "head"! LOL

Our entire lives are a process of learning curves. All of us have the opportunity to learn something new every day. The challange is whether we "choose" to learn!

Curly Sue,

When I was in a hotel room, I offered to let Hairlady come over to observe and "time" me! We had a lot of laughs, that's for sure! At that time, I only had one unit, so...it was indeed a true de/re with one unit. I used Supertape and removed after seven days. I sat in the shower with hot water on my head and it released the bond almost immediately. The tape stayed on my head so there was only a quick cleanup with dawn on the unit and then I blowdried the lace only. Next, I pulled the tape off of my head and did a quick dawn scrub. While the scalp protector was drying, I applied my supertape...HL was taking pictures and laughing...  Then, I did my attachment. It was very quick and simple. Now, I have 2 units but my de/re takes a little bit longer since I have found using some glue in the very front looks more natural for me. I apply 3 thin layers that are about 1/8" wide and 3" long strip of glue. That takes a bit of time to dry between each layer so my routine isn't quite as short anymore. Also, I have to use the goo gone. That means I have to do a thorough wash of my unit after it's removed. However, I do have two units now and will never go with just one again. I can do my unit clean up even a day (or a week) later when I have the time. I only had one unit at a time for almost two years. It makes all the difference in the world when you have two! If you have any other questions, feel free to post them on the board and I will answer them there!

About Babe with a Mane

My natural hair has not been seen for over 20 years. It has hidden under wigs and weaves, under toppik, colored sprays, couvre and dermatch. My growing hair is a significant burden. It takes too much time to try to fix it up to be presentable, too much money to try to fix, too much energy to worry about and conceal. Every day, I used to wish for great hair. Every day I was ashamed of my thin hair. Every day, I woke up feeling confident, feminine and sexy inside. Then, I looked in the mirror at my natural hair and those positive thoughts were robbed from me. My natural hair forced me to feel unattractive, timid and insecure. I know who I am inside and I wanted to project that image to everyone else. To do that, my hair had to change. Women who are bald or have very thin hair, are not considered "socially acceptable" in the general public's eye. I wanted to be considered socially acceptable, my natural hair wouldn't let me. My dream hair allows me to lead a normal life. I wake up to my guy nuzzling my neck while my soft hair is brushed aside. I jump in the shower to wash my hair. I look in the mirror to see a confident and sexy woman, looking back at me. I don't waste hours trying to disguise myself to fit in. I blow dry and curl my hair and go to work with a spring in my step. I don't catch others staring at my thin hair while trying to have a conversation with me. The same confident, self assurance that I feel inside is now projected on the outside. There are no further internal battles between true persona and an incongruous outward appearance. I am finally, after a lifetime of dreaming, able to project an image that reflects the confident, sexy, intelligent, feminine woman I truly am.

Babe with a Mane

Not born with hair, but I've got the intelligence to find it, the job to pay for it, the patience to "stick" it on just right, the will to make it work, the confidence to wear it boldly and the smile to wear under it!
